• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Thoughts on ACCESSORIES

Only 65, But back back in Brooklyn in the early 60's the gas stations would try to put each other out of business by cutting prices, a penny at a time,
They were called Gas wars. They finally woke up and and started to fix their prices,
Like they do now.
I'm a couple of years younger, and I remember the gas wars, too. I worked in a gas station back then. We saw prices (briefly) as low as 13¢. The average price then was $0.25-$0.30. Being a couple of years behind you, the minimum wage was $1.00 by then. Sure was nice to be able to fill up your car for three to four bucks, and fill the bike for less than a dollar.

I'm pretty much with you on age, and yes, I too remember the Gas Wars since my folks at the time owned three Gulf stations in central Oklahoma. Looking back it seems like the "Good ole Days", and for me it was; :ohyea:However, I'm not sure the folks thought so at the time.:D

I have to agree with kent :2thumbs::agree:
We are being over taxed and do not get much value for our money. :chat:Accessories are price pointed you get what you pay for.

I'm just a bit younger than you guys, but I remember being young in the back seat of the car, gas was about 35 cents a gallon, they pumped it for you, checked your oil, and handed you a free 49er glass! That's how I remember all of this - the cool 49er glasses that the Shell stations gave out! :D

Gas wars

My dad and his brothers had stations back in the 60' when I was young. I remember riding with my dad writing down the gas prices so he could match the lowest prices. One uncle who was getting undercut went out one night and cut the gas hoses at some other stations. :yikes:

Ok, since we are traveling down memory lane. When I was first stationed at MCAS Cherry Point I can remember going to the vending machines and for a quarter getting a can of Coke and a pack of peanut butter cheese crackers. :yikes: This was in 1972.

Back in 65, when i was asked to join Pres Johnson's crusade, starting pay was 93 dollars a month, And the vending machines at Fort Lewis only held Apple's. :hun:

I remember 18 cent gas [Sinclair] plus 6 drinking glasses, and they cleaned your winsheld. Those were the good old days.
Yeah, those were the good old days all right,
You were lucky to make 75 cents an hour back then.

I remember my Dad giving me a gallon gas can, and a quarter. I would fill the can up (23 cents @ Phillips) and being able to keep the two cents for gum.

I remember my dad giving me a gas can, and a pack of matches. Oh wait, that is a different story. :yikes:

I vaguely remember being taken to a 5 and 10 store once. I was so young at the time that most of the memory is only a blur though. :dontknow: :D

We would all bike down to the corner store (Gulf Gas, I think) and pick out our candy for the week - we all had a quarter. Gum was 1 cent each, there were tootsie roll pops, wafers - all the good stuff. Pick up the Sunday paper and bike back home (about 2 miles, I think).

I also remember the gas wars - 2 stations across the street from each other, each dropping the price by a penny or so. :D

Just think one day our Grand kids are going to remember the good old days when gas was ONLY around 3 dollars a gal.:chat:
