This will be THE cheapest way out of my head/fog light dilemma

I am just gonna have to resort to HID-colored halogen light bulbs from starrotors.com. seems they have both h8 and h7
I spent so much money on talon alarm,hindle,brp fog light I just cant see myself spending another 700bucks minimum to get HID head/fog lights replacement plus i still have to get footboards and some sort of music system on spyder oh and corbin bags(1700+dollars)
gonna have to cut expenses somewhere and I really do need more storage space.
I may just leave the lights as is but at 25dollar investment for both head/fog lights what the hell^^

I figure its just swapping out a halogen bulbs for another halogen bulb what negative effect could it possibly have on bike....... I hope^^

the difference between bulbs and real HID's are night and day put saftey first especialy at night hold off on those other things and spend money on the real HID's worry about that other stuff later thats my opion find someone who already has them check them out you will see a huge differance trust me i have them worth every dime :2thumbs:

I would just save my pennies. I agree that real HIDs are a world apart from the HID-colored lights. Some of those actually reduce the actual light output, as the color filters out a portion of the light. There are a few alternative bulbs that do cast a slightly greater amount of light. PIAA Extreme Whites, for instance. Sylvania makes one, too. Who knows about starrotors.com? The amount of extra light is usually not worth the cost in a projector light like the Spyder. I have a PIAA in my BMW, and love it. It is certainly much better than stock. The standard projector lamps on the Spyder are so much better than even the improved BMW that it is pitiful, however. If it were me, I'd save up for a while, and get NMN's HID kits, headlights first, when the piggy bank got full. The money for the colored lights will make a good start.

I think you will be VERY pleased with PIAA StarWhites, or Extreme Whites. Amazon has very good prices on them. PIAA website says StarWhites are the best combo of light output and longevity. 55W draw, 100W equivalent output. BIG difference seat of the pants.

Also, PIAA 1100X dichroic driving lights are adaptable to the Spyder and REALLY light up the road. Less than $150. Need a little creativity for mounting.

hmmm driving lights in seems pretty good if i didnt already got brp fog lights i may try to take the mounting bracket off and somehow try to mount inside the air duct

The driving lights are halogens, and may need some air around them to dissipate heat. Also, without the mounting bracket, they won't be aimable, so you'd have to get the aim right the first time.(the ducts actually aim toward the center of the machine) I can try to detail how I mounted if you're interested.

the kit comes in a motorcycle version with a couple small billet brackets,(a hundred bucks more!!) but I don't think those will work well on the spyder as there's little exposed metal to tie to. The metal brackets are small and need a solid mounting surface, whereas the regular set have a fairly large footprint and can be mounted with good stability on bodywork.

Looks good John in PA. I've been contemplating something like this since i don't want to spend the $450 or so for the BRP fogs. Thanks for giving me something to think about.

I'm a bit lost on this thread...you can get the BRP fog lights for about $350.00 and NMN HIDs for about $300 as well...this would take care of all of your lighting needs.

If you can only go with one, I'd recommend getting the fog lights...more lights are better than less!

I will be getting the NMN HIDs sooner or later...they are brighter and last longer...safety is worth the money!

already got the fog lights

its just me trying to decide how much more money i wanna put in for lights seems brighter bulbs are working for quite a few people
i figure with FOUR brighter bulbs i can get away with not spending at least 700 bucks or more for hid kits for both head/fog light

First thing dltang and I tried were brighter bulbs. We got Silverstar Ultras or something like that. They cost between $35 and $50 (don't remember exactly which ones we bought) at the local auto parts store. Yes they were a bit brighter than the BRP stock bulbs but they don't even compare to the NoMagicNeon HIDs that we put in about a month later. If I was only going to do fog lights or HIDs, I would go with one set of HIDs in the headlights over getting the fog light kit and buying brighter bulbs for both the headlights and the fog lights.

after christmas i will probably get hid on both head and fogs
if brighter bulbs doesnt meet my expectation
i was gonna get nomagic hid kits but after the comments he made on another thread about someone trying to make brighter/higher wattage bulb work i am gonna stay away from nmn products

Hello all! So I would love hid lights as well, but can't afford that right now the wifey says. so I was gonna get some of those " super bright white bulbs" when I can. I want all the lights to match so some are not "yellow". My question is are the regular, fogs, and fender tips all h7's? And how hard is it to change the headlight and fogs? I've seen a thread some wear around hear about the tips I'm sure I can find. I'm sure its fairly easy but I just don't know! I not a pro by far but I did change my pipe to the hindle!
