• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

This site could really use a Spyder FAQ.

I don't know which thread pushed me over the edge-- the 1,000th thread about which companies make floorboards, the 500th thread about battery tenders, or the 900th thread about tire pressures.

All I know is, this site could really use a sticky thread FAQ to answer the basic questions that get asked daily by new (and sometimes veteran!) Spyder riders.

Of course, *I* am not volunteering for such a yeoman effort ;)... but I just think that would save a lot of new members trouble, and help save Lamont, Scotty and the rest of the vets from copying & pasting so many old threads! :joke:

Does anyone know what company makes the best floorboards ??? :roflblack::roflblack:

But Dave,
You stuck your head up above the bunker first... :yikes:
No doulbt that a lot of information is constatnly being re-cycled; New folks show up and have questions...
Besides; My Missus will be glad to tell you how much reminding I need before something gets thorugh my thick skull! :opps:

2xFloor...

Lets look at this from a business perspective for Lamont. The more threads and posts in a day will have a profound effect on the value of his web site. He would be nuts if he did not love it.

I was looking at another forum yesterday, and the last post was three days ago. If I was looking into being a site sponsor for a website, no way would I choose that one with so little site traffic.

So post on Bob Denman, post on !!!

...I'm typing as fast as I can...:roflblack:
Seriously though.... If I get in the way; just tell me to shut up and I'll go sit in a corner... :opps:

This site would not be the same without you Bob. Besides......if I'm going to break your 4000 post record in one year, I only need 2995 more in 3 months. It would be hard, but not impossible. :coffee: If I was ban proof I could do it, but watching what I post has put a serious dent in my post count. :roflblack::roflblack:

The forum search function is your friend... Even googling against spyderlovers can be a more effective search.

FAQ

You folks crack me up! :roflblack: As a new spyder owner and a new motorcycle ryder, all the info I have discovered on this site has been a HUGE help to me. Repeat, repeat........some things just can't be said enough. Thanks Lamont!!!!

Well, here is my short list....

1- Which oil should I use?
2- I need a video of how to change a spark plug
3- I need a video of how to change my oil
4- How do I get rid of the oil in my airbox
5- I need a video of how to make a video!

The trouble is, very few (if any) actually USE a FAQ. It's much easier (more fun and raises your post count) if you just start the 10,000th thread asking who makes floorboards or which exhaust system is best!

I'm like the rest of you though, it's a fantastic idea as long as I don't have to do it! :ohyea:

:agree: Or, perhaps we can have a sticky on how to use the Search function when looking for something specific. It's not always easy to find the answers when you're not sure which forum to look in, that's why I normally search the SpyderWeb.

The search function on any forum I've been on is not the greatest. You can end up with countless posts that you are not interested in.

I agree with Bob. You have new members all the time and they may want to know what tire pressures to run for example. So, I don't see anything wrong with someone listing the actual pressures again.

If you type in - tire pressures, you get 7 pages to look at; if you type in- tire pressure, you get 18 pgs.; if you type with quotes and the plus sign= "tire+pressure", you get 13 pgs.; if you type in- "tire+pressures", you get 5 pgs. And, those were under the Single Content Type; don't know what Multiple Content Type would show.

I checked some of the posts listed above and there was no mention of any actual pressure (number).

You people continue to crack me up. :roflblack:

I too, had thought about a lot of the same questions being asked over and over. IMHO--I think that is great, as opposed to having a FAQ kind of thing. I don't go to FAQ very often either.

You can usually get an answer pretty quick here and you know it will be current information. Unless, you are trying to find out what the throttle box knob is.

I enjoy meeting the new people and addressing their question if I can provide some insight.

That is what makes this site the place to be. I started out on both sites and left the other one after about a month. There were many fewer posts and that was the place that the double ranters made sure they got their messages out. I also note: we have not had too many of the multi ranters lately--whats up with that? :roflblack:

Nothing really, it's just Lamont's moderator keeping things mellow.

FAQ would be great...but in reality...the same questions are going to come up......skip over the ones you don't want to read......My personal opinion...like anybody cares.....this board is so much more about motorcycle...Spyder.....than any other board I frequent......
Go Lamonster!!!!!!:yes::yes::yes:

Did this guy get promoted to site moderator? Last time I saw him he was going to determine who was eligible for mileage pins and patches--so that no one could cheat.
