This is Embarasing but Here Goes...

Hoping to read that it turned out well for you! Just had a Sport Touring delivered for my RT LTD with plans to install it myself. Which brings me to the question of. Any luck with the repair? Was it an easy install for you? Any special tools needed beside a torque wrench? Why did you need to cut the bolts off and which one s were they? What if any would you do different next time?

I cleaned up my repair last night, It looks a lot better than the pic I posted. I do not regret doing the install myself. Dropping the silencer was just one of those things that would never happen again in a million years. I would take it to the muffler guy today but we are having severe storms all this weekend in N Texas. The bolts I cut were the 2 bolts that fasten the muffler to the Cat Converter. They have one side with an allen screw and the other with a nut, washer and spring and little space for a socket wrench. The Threads looked to be intentionally damaged or something so that even after breaking the first few turns, It seemed to not want to turn without breaking the allen wrench. I have a set of allen sockets that are even stronger and it was extremely Hard to turn, I kind of felt like the nut wa cross threaded in there only the problem was with both of them. The directions say those bolts will be trashed anyway and they provide new bolts, washers and nuts. I used up a cut off tool blade for one side and the other side, I used a reciprocating saw. It was getting late and I was so exited about getting it on, I was tired and got careless. The directions are all large black and white photos that take you one step at a time. Dont miss the part at the end where it says to run the spyder at Idle for 15 minutes and then let it sit for 30. It is a essential break in step. I did not use a torque wrench, I have 2 of them, and the one that clicks was the only one I could get in there. It never clicked and I turned it till the flange started to deform some so I left it there. The main thing is the silencer needs to line up with the tire, straight up and down. The directions clearly point that out. The only way I could get it straight like that was to tighten the outside nut a lt more than the inside nut. Other than that there are no special tools needed. I think that on the RT there may be an extra bolt, but not sure. On my Install there were a total of 3 bolts in all. The one on the side was a piece of cake.
Thanks
Bill
PS You ill need to either jack up your spyder or put it up on ramps.

The sound to me was not that much different than stock. Just a little more throaty. If you remove the baffolds, it sounds much better but not too loud. I removed mine without taking it back off. Just take out the side rubber grommets, and there are allen screws in there you need to feel for. once they are out, the baffolds pull out easily with a pair of pliers.

Thanks for your input! Glad to hear you got it squared away! Will tackle my install on Monday. I have removed the rear mounting bolt under my right side saddle bag. It was easy!
I did begin to remove the two Allen bolts but met resistance after getting it lose. Causing me to doubt if I was turning in the right direction. Allen heads seam to be soft an easily stripped. And your right about the included nuts & bolts. There's one additional bolt but, per instruction only required to use the two Allen nuts & bolts and the hex head nut & bolt for the rear mounting bracket.
Again, thanks for sharing your lessons learned with me.

Yes, That extra bolt is for an RT install when they still had the smaller engines. Those 2 bolts in the front looked to me like they damaged the thread to keep it from backing off which is common in some practices. I remember when I was younger working for a ladder company and we would flatten off the bolt ends with a hammer after cutting them off. I just had to jack it up higher to be able to get a saw in there. There is a large gap to work the saw or whatever cutting tool you may have.

I had my exhaust installed at the dealer and a week ago decided from #1 sons urging to pull out the baffles. The top one came out easy (you can use either a 4mm allen or 8mm socket) but had issues with the bottom one. After looking at the screw/bolt that came out easy...and after fighting with the other and finally getting it out...BOTH screws has small TACK WELDS on the screws to the baffles. Like i said, one popped off easy the other took some more work. On the bottom set screw, I had to grind down the end of the 1/4' drive 8mm socket to eliminate the chamfer on the open end of the socket so it would set better on the set screw and use a 3/8" to 1/4" adapter for more leverage and put some oomph on it. And I found out too that if the socket falls off into the access hole or the set screw falls down into the end piece...a good magnet will go thru the carbon fiber and you can get them out..

Well yesterday I finally heard from Akrapovic. They use Revzilla as their parts distributor. I got an email also from Revzilla. The part number is V-EC148 and includes the tip, the metal band and rivets. They did not mention a cost which made me think they would just send it to me. Ill call the guy today to get the ball rolling.
Also I got that offer in the mail yesterday that was the $350 off a new AK silencer like the one posted on the Sale thread a while back. If you didn't catch the thread, the OP posted the offer and none of the dealers were aware of it and I had a time of it to get the discount. The card I got gave the discount off of the 899.99 price. Final cost is 549.99 plus tax.

I got the part ordered, 134.99 is a little bit more than the Muffler guy's 100 but just knowing that I will be getting a new part is well worth the extra 35 bucks.

Yesterday was the first day I got to ride my spyder with all the rain we've been getting and just been busy.
OMG? The sound is better but the performance was the real eye opener. The difference is like night and day. I could cycle threw the gears like never before and it felt like I was riding around on a UFO. :spyder2:

I dont know how many horse power I gained , but theres a a bunch more. Even the low end torch was much better. I could smell something funny though. Probablly the silencer is putting off some new smells.
