• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

This HURTS!!! Help?

I have an IR temp reader and never seen more than 124deg in that area(plastic or metal) on mine and I check it regularly. I have Seal Dlx floorboards that give lots of room to move your feet around I hated the foot peg.

This may be way out, but I had a simlar problem on a ST1100. Have you checked the coolant level ? The ST1100 was low on coolant. It sounds like your running hot if the gauge is that high, even in summer to. Experts ?????

well today my low fuel light cam on at 89 miles and it took almost 5 gal's of gas now my friend say my tail pipe and said it looks like it's running rich who knows i almost give up

17.8 mpg sounds very low. Let's hope they get your issues figured out, and then solved.

Best I have seen has been 26.5mpg on a 90% highway150 mi. trip I sure hope it gets better 1600mi on the clock.

Well, we made it home. Was a pretty rough ride, especially because of traffic that we weren't expecting. Going to have to throw these boots away and hide my foot from the wife because of a blister on my ankle. If she had any idea what my foot felt like when riding this thing she would have me driving it back to the dealer today! Thanks for the input folks, I'm looking for any options to help alleviate this problem. I've got a lot more reading to do here on the forum and hopefully I'll find something that works!

As a sidenote, we were stuck in traffic and we ran out of gas. I filled it up with a 91 octane yesterday and only got 136 miles before it croaked. Luckily I have a 1.25 gallon fuel can I keep in the left saddlebag in case of emergencies so we were able to make it to a gas station. That only works out 21.1 miles per gallon. Not sure what to think about that just yet… :sour:
It doesn't sound like you are calculating your mileage correctly. That works out to 6.4 gallons of gas to go 136 miles. The 2008-2013 Spyder tank only has a usable capacity of 6.0 gallons, so if you put in that much you overflowed to the emissions canister. To fill the Spyder tank you need to insert the nozzle just into the ring, then fill slowly (especially near the top). Stop filling when gas just begins to spurt out of the vent slots in the ring. You can try again to top it off, but be sure to stop the second time it spurts. To calculate mileage, divide the miles traveled (from the trip odometer) by the gallons filled. Don't forget to reset the trip odometer. Note that the travel range can be severely limited by not filling all the way, and also that over filling will ruin the emissions canister, often resulting in gas odors. Overfilling to the emissions canister also just wastes that gas.

I bought a 2012 RT-S SE5( last year) I do not have any heat issues on my feet. I do wear leather boots. Deanna777:thumbup:

Hi Dee!
It's the 2013 models that seem to have been causing the most fuss over heat issues...

How's the hunt for your 2014 progressing???

That sounds like an excellent mod. Could you post pictures of that please?

As for me, I believe it's the heat from the pipes next to my foot and not from the radiator vents that's causing the problem. I reached down a few times and athough there was very hot air coming out of the vent, it was the side of the bike that was really blistering hot.

One other thing I forgot to mention: the bike often shuts off for no reason when sitting at a stoplight or stopped in traffic. It is not overheating, and there is gas in it for certain since I just filled it up. This has happened to me at least half a dozen times and I can't figure out why it would be shutting off on its own. This is starting to really concern me. I've owned several new vehicles before and never had this many issues right off the bat. I like the concept of the spyder but it's execution has me thinking I have made a poor choice. Very disappointed at the moment.
