• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just a heads up for you that have stayed at The Alamo Motel in Maggie Valley. There are new owners. I had made reservations in January from the realowner at the published rates, $45 weekdays and $49 weekends.

When I got here yesterday I was informed the rates went up because there was a motorcycle event in Maggie Valley this weekend. I'm NOT attending it but attending GeoWoodstock it Waynesville, NC.

The previous owners NEVER jacked the price due to an event. I stayed here during the BRP events. The price went up an extra $20 a night. On top of that, they had to fix the tv so I could get cable because there was NO wifi!
They finally fixed the wifi this morning. I got to sit on the front steps next to 'the box' for a signal in the chilly air to get my 220 emails. It now seems to work in the room on the back side.

The previous owners are gone due to health issues. I really liked them and I'm sad they are gone and why they had to give up the motel.

 Hopefully the new owners will get things figured-out, and the situation will improve...

...Even if that doesn't help you right now: it could make a difference for future trips!

There is the Spyder Adventures Rally here October 12-15, 2017. It's one of the BRP sponsored events.
I'm not planning to stay here for that.

If you have a confirmed reservation at $45/$49 and now they're trying to up it, isn't that breach of contract or something?

:agree: A confirmed reservation in writing may be what you need to get the price originally quoted. If the new owners want to play "games" to make an extra $20 bucks--shame on them.

Suggest they wisen (don't know if that's a real word) up and learn about customer service. Business could go downhill quickly otherwise.

Give the Home Hearth Inn a try next time. The price is in the same ballpark, and the owner is always nice and friendly. It is just east of the original Dollar General on Soco Rd. We stayed there for the first time 2 years ago on our annual June trip. From that time on, we have gotten the same rate, no matter the season (most go up in the summer and fall).

I travel working outages at power plants and it seems to be a pretty (ugly) common practice to raise rates at some places. Usually, it's the not so nice places that do it because that's the only way they can get ANY business at a higher rate. It does help to be a regular customer with some, others not so much. Once again, a shining example of greed.

There is, or was a program on the Travel Channel, called Hotel Impossible. Hosted by Anthony Melchiorri. He travels the country helping failing hotels. It sounds like the place you stayed at, may soon need his services. Wi-Fi and a television are the most common attributes of a motel room these days, One shouldn't even have to think twice about the room you stay in, having both. Anymore than one should expect a functioning shower.
