• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Think I'm about done with Deals Gap

Maybe you need to change your handle to "Never2Fast" or "NeverHaveSpeeded" :dontknow:

I'm pretty sure that most of these bodies you pulled out of wrecks were alcohol or drug related and few if any were a middle aged experienced drivers doing 15 over on a 45 wide open road with no driveways and a clear line of site.

I'm glad to see we have so many saints on this board though, you all are great example of how I should drive. Not sure if I can but I am encouraged that so many of you never break the law in anyway including speeding.

Lamont, just think of the ticket as a "performance award.":2thumbs::firstplace:

Deal's Gap and Speeding

Hi everyone! Rory MacDonell here, new member and picking up my SE5 (Red) Friday afternoon.
I have been reading your blogs and replies with interest on speeding tickets and enforcement since I am currently employed as a Deputy/Bailiff, and I am a retired Deputy in Florida. Several of you have mentioned "selective enforcement." Yes, it is, and usually by direction due to complaints lodged by the general public. Many officers are also bike riders and enjoy being out and about as much as the rest of us. However, depending on the jurisdiction and agency employing them, officers may or may not have the authority to issue warnings either written or verbal. Some agencis use non-paying written warnings, but here in Florida that has been done away with. In many instances, officers no longer have the discretion to write warnings.
As far as the revenue derived from pahing citations goes, here in Florida, and I suspect many other states, revenue derived from traffic citations goes into the general fund, and the issuing agency or county or municipality actually sees very little of that money.
Someone else mentioned to be as courteous as possible when stopped, and that does go a long way. Your attitude towards the officer will help.
Please remember if you do happen to be stopped, whether in the mountains, or anywhere else, that the reason for the stop is mainly for your safety. As far as discretion goes, once an officer has made a traffic stop, he or she has effectively stopped you from violation of the law right then, and depending on whether or not the officer is allowed the discretion of writing or not writing a citation, you may get off with only a warning.

I have never driven the Tail of the Dragon, or been in Deals Gap.....but from the "map" of the area I can understand why I often read about accidents occuring on said roadway. Maybe (more like PROBABLY), this is the reason for increased law enforcement in the area. Those who frequently ride here should know about this and drive accordingly.

Sure, all the reasons you mention are causes for accidents, but then so is SPEED. If the conditions were as you describe, doing 60 in a 45 zone doesn't sound dangerous, but it is still illegal and for whatever reason the officer saw fit to ticket you for it.

I'm no angel. While I try to obey the speed limits, I'll keep up with the flow of traffic regardless of what the posted limit is. If I do get "pulled over" and issued a citation I'll accept the penalty for violating the law and not seek sympathy on an internet forum.

BTW, my screen name comes from a 130+ mph race boat I had owned...not from speeding on public roads !

...we've all seen the dare-devil 100 mph YouTube runs through the gap with the rice rockets - these are the guys who screw it up for all us when we get caught with our pants down on a simple overtaking or just the normal every day winding through the gears.

Don't look now, but you're making the same argument as those who wrote the speed limit laws in the first place. What do I mean?

Question: What's the difference between 45 mph and 65 mph?
Answer: It's a matter of degree.

Question: What's the difference between 65 mph and 100 mph?
Answer: It's a matter of degree.

I believe George Carlin made my point most eloquently with one of his patented "observations."

"Did you ever notice anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?"

"Get outta the way you idiot!"

"Did you see how fast that maniac was going?!!??"

Regards,

Mark

Yes I get it because I also ride with a group of them BUT what you need to get is when your not with them be a little more careful of your speed its quite simple. And if you really feel a need for speed go to a track day with the real riders not on the open road where it can endanger someone else.So do you get that?

Do you not get the fact that this is hypocritical?? its ok to speed as long as u are with a cop??? please....:barf:

You must not ride with any cop friends . A badge goes a long way here in Tennessee.

I got a feeling she more than just rides with them. It would have been more honest to just say what her real relationship is with the LEO's and then you would know why her first three post were attacking my judgement. :sour:

hey i love the emoticon...it looks like someone beating a liberal(donkey)!:yikes:;)

So does driving fast automatically mean you are a danger on the road? Case in point...... my grandmother never drives fast, in fact you could probably get out and walk next to the car when she's on the highway. However she's been known to drive the wrong way down a one way street:yikes: (more than once). Now that is dangerous and if she had a police escort I'm sure she would get fifty tickets a day. But hey, what do we young wippersnappers know anyway?

By the way, be careful when driving in South Florida (thats where she lives)
