• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The Value of Wearing Good Gear

... I said he should think before sounding off on an open forum. ...

We can pick an choose point-counter-point in a PM if you want to Geoff.

My biggest problem with your post was that you used specific words and phrases such as, "your pathetic disregard of the dangers" and "You won't be surprised if I tell you that your 80 years have not taught you one ounce of common sense" in your reply to Bones.

You have your opinion and he has his. However, you have been around here a long time and I saw this as your attempt to demean and intimidate Bones into conforming to your own personal definition of what is "right".

Bones should have the same right to voice his opinion on an open forum as do you, as long as he isn't using profanity or posting in violation of Lamont's rules.

My best advice to you is that if you don't want to be challenged on any of your posts, then you should exercise your own advice (excerpted verbatim) and quoted above from your post.

... I may be completely off base here.

I do wish you hadn't said that...

Well, at least we can agree on that.
When I first read that last sentence from Wyliec, my own personal preconceptions were screaming at me that it was a backhanded compliment aimed at one of us. Based on the posts, most likely aimed at me. But in the end, I decided to NOT try to interpret the intent or lack thereof and instead I just thanked for the post...

Intent, content, & timing. It's everything. Once, it's all understood.

Not easy in a format such as this.

Okay; How about this one?
For a Brit; you ain't too bad!

"For a Brit" ....... now you're talking. That's perhaps the first and most important thing to understand before all else. That's not a slap. Just a fact. Like "Don't go wobbly on me".

:agree: I think the point's been made, I'd be happy to have the thread closed.

That said, I certainly want to apologize to anyone here, and most especially Lamont and Chris, if offense was taken. I didn't write my post out of malice, or nagging, or anything bad at all.

I wrote it simply to share my own perspective, at a time where I knew people would be focused on it. Like I said in my post, the decisions we make are our own, and all of them are surely defensible to some degree.

Nothing we choose to wear, nothing we choose to *do*, is a guarantee against bad things happening. Riding is inherently a risky activity-- we've all already chosen to do something a little bit more dangerous than staying in bed all day.

Anyway, please know that I genuinely wrote the above in the spirit of caring. I hate to see any of my Spyder "family" in pain, or any rider, for that matter.

Safe riding, and hoping to see many of you this week...
