• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Questions

I am psyched right now! On May 2 the backrest will be shipped. Now the question...Has anyone installed one on their Spyder? If so, how difficult was it? Does the seat stay in shape after you cut it? I cannot wait to get it and to feel the support for my back.:D:ohyea:

I have installed 3 of these already and the hardest thing to do is get over the fact that you have to cut into the seat, and also getting the seat back on without loosing any parts down the hole behind the seat.
Just follow the instructions that are provided and call if you need me to walk you through it.
You will like it and your back will thank you for it.
Have fun abd ryde safe. C-YA RL

Bump... I'm in the same boat. Another member actually sent me a video on how to disassemble the seat.

Cover those holes back under the seat where the rear hinges are so nothing drops down into them. If something does, they are pretty deep...

Has anyone looked at, or knows, if the Utopia backrest hardware works on the Corbin seat that has a back rest? The Corbin hardware doesn't seem to have the various adjustment angles the Utopia does.

I've had both and I don't believe it will fit the Corbin. There is a 5/8" ID square tube vertically in the Corbin where the Utopia must go.

.

However much fear or small hassle you have to overcome to install the Utopia Backrest, it's worth it. My back thanks me ever time I mount up. I used to have neck and back aches at distance, now complete comfort

IT IS HERE!

OK now I am really happy. I got the Utopia today and cannot wait to install it. Still have the concern over the fact that I have to cut the seat but......will endure and conquer. AWESOME is the way it is made and stitched. Thanks Utopia!!!!:yes:

Like InspectorGadget mentioned, make sure you don't let the nuts on the seat fall into the gaps and that the hurtful part :gaah: is cutting the seat. Otherwise, if you follow the instructions, you will have a good install and will enjoy the seat as much as we do!:ohyea: It took me (with the help of my lovely assistant, my wife;)) about an hour all together.

After seeing all of the Utopia installs, I bit and mine arrives May 30! A little Xanax and I'll be fine.:sour:

is there anyway to get something from that location? i lost the red plug that goes over the battery accessory terminal under the seat ... had it on the passenger seat. lifted the seat up and bam... down the black hole behind the seat it went.

A magnet for metal things, or a piece of wire bent with a little hook for your plastic plug, and then the patience of "Job".

A good tip is to stuff a piece of black rag down there permanantly to block the hole. Just remove and clean and/or dry from time to time.
Cheers
Bob

My backrest should ship on May 23rd. With all of the positive comments from eveyone here, I know it will be a great mod to have.

We went to Spyderfest on Tuesday. Went to Cowtown Wednesday (before the rain) and checked out the Special Spyderfest bikes with the Utopia backrest and other goodies. The Utopia is of excellent quality so I decided to get one. I asked the service department and they had one in stock and only changed me $10 for the install. Wish they were closer. I would have all my services done there. :2thumbs: Best mod I have done so far.

You know, it seems to me that it would be possible to install the Utopia without removing the saddle. You may be able to release the lift arm and then lift the front of the saddle high enough to drill the necessary holes and complete the install.

Since Bob (Utopia) used my saddle, which I mailed to him along with the passenger backrest, to design the backrest for the RT, I didn't do the actual install myself because he did. But having installed one on my GL1800 Goldwing, a Siverwing scooter and a my wife's '08 GS Spyder, I have a pretty good idea how it installs. While $10 is super-cheap fo the install price, and may have been a Spyderfest special price, I could see the possibility of an experienced installer doing one in 15 minutes, or so.

Cowtown received 15 Utopia back rests just before Spyderfest. They had several of them installed on Spyders in their showroom and by Thursday afternoon they were sold out. So they obviously had some experience installing these and got the install process down to an art. I am sure the $10 install fee was a Spyderfest special. I had the bike back to me in less than an hour and they were kept very busy during Spyderfest. Tried to get in on their 600 mile service for $135 but ran out of time.
