The Ultimate mistake????

I bought the Ultimate seat($1000.00) a couple of weeks ago. I have put about 300+ miles on it with short and long trips. The problem I have is an ache in my right knee that becomes painful and radiate down to my ankle I called the company about a week ago and was told to keep adjusting the back rest position. That it takes as much as 500 miles to get comfortable. So I started with the basics and removed the back rest completely, no relief. I put the back rest al the way back, all the way up front and everything in between, no relief.
the seat feels hard and must be putting pressure on a nerve.

I had the OEM seat with a Airhawk cushion before and didn't have the problem. I hate to think I spent all that money for the Ultimate seat. For that much money it should feel like sitting on a Lazy Boy.The 14 day return policy has expired and even if it hadn't it would cost me more money to return it. I really want this seat to work.

So now that you've heard my complaint is there anyone out there that can give me some tips on other steps I can take to get into that 1000.00 comfort zone?

I like Whine with my cheese.

Yours is the first complaint I've ever heard about the ultimate seat. Not saying it's not legit.

Thinking it may be less about how you set in the seat and more about how your legs hang when setting on it.

Is it wider, or taller?

I don't know how to help, but I can tell you that the first 3-400 miles on my Ultimate, I was thinking I wasted my money. It seemed no better than the stock seat. But, like someone turned a switch, that sucker became sooooo comfy. Much better than the stock. Hope you can find a fix and become a satisfied customer.

As posted above, the first complaint I can recall about the Ultimate seat product. Seats are very personal and unfortunately, it sounds like this was not a good match up for you specifically.

I would recommend giving it another 1000 miles or so to get the seat "broke in" to your riding position and style. If that does not work, putting it up for sale may be your best solution. Seats are big buck "gambles," but sometimes that is the outcome.

It does feel like my feet are not has flush to the floor board as they were, maybe that's putting a stain on the knee

Easy way to check that put something on your shoe while you are right then raise them up some see if the pain goes away or raise the floor boards up some with a temporary lift just to test. If that is the case then you can talk with those folks again see if they can lower it.

Seats are a hard thing because they are so freaking expensive, they are very personal, and it takes about 500 miles to figure it out... I will say that I'm happy with my ultimate seat. With your issue, it sounds like either the seat angle, or position changed just enough to effect the angles of your legs.

I may have missed it, but what year / model spyder do you have? I have a 2012, and while the seat was a "alright" comfort upgrade, it was nothing compared to adding the NBV highway pegs, and Rivco floorboards. With all 3 changes, I can ride all day most of the time now.

seat

i had one on my wing and loved it, do you ride two up. because if you don't have them move your seating position back a inch or two. they did it for me on the wing and the pain in my legs went away

To give this thread a different twist...my concern is that you don't have a bigger issue?

For me I know that certain sitting positions or prolonged riding/driving at my age can result in blood clots. Now I don't know you or your health, but blood clots can be very serious.

I only mention this because mine in the past have started at the knee and radiated down my leg...your exact quote.

if not , I would change position and/or do some simple stretches before riding...can do you a world of good.

a) I have the Ultimate Tallboy on my 2014 and love tin - new seats do take time to adjust to and the Ultimate only gets better over time

b) as the poster above, I tend to agree since I have multiple spine issues and have had back surgery - the type of pain you are talking about is from l4/l5 vertebrae and could indicate a spinal issue.... not to scare you, but, you should consult a doctor

I have to say I agree with these two posts. If a $1,000 seat isn't working for you; and given the type of pain you describe, I am fairly sure no seat is going to solve the problem.

I have a long history of major spine issues and can tell you a comfy-seat can only mask a much bigger problem -- and only for so long.

I realize you were looking for answers to make the seat work; but I am hesitant to think there is a solution. I tend to believe you have another problem that needs to be addressed first. And if that is the situation, I wish you the best of luck in getting it resolved -- so you can ride as much as you can with a smile instead of a grimace.

I'm sorry to hear that you're both frustrated, AND in pain...
You've gotten some pretty good advice; my penny's worth; is to try what Ramjet offered-up... little adjustments in different directions, to see if a slightly different positioning of you and your feet can make a difference.
You might even find that a different riding boot with a built-up sole makes all of the difference! nojoke
Good Luck; please tell us what works for you!

I am thinking you are blaming the seat for a physical problem that you may be having. You are allowed to do that since you paid for the seat.

I had the opposite problem. I could only drive my luxury SUV for 20 minutes before I had to get out of it. I could ride my Spyder for hours with the standard seat and later with the Ultimate seat. Turns out I have bursitis. I fixed the problem in my $45K SUV with a $12 ass donut. Just one of the many indignities that comes with getting older.

So, not to make excuses for Ultimate seats, you may want to look closer to home for a solution. Let's hope it is not something as serious as blood clots and more like the PIA bursitis that I suffered from.

Seat Issues

I have had a couple of after market seats on my Spyder and find that how my feet and legs orient are pretty important. Saw that same note on an earlier post and would recommend trying to change the height of your floorboards. If your leg is 'hanging' downward and the seat is cutting off a nerve, you will have pain. It is like sitting in a wooden chair when your feet do not touch the floor. The question may also be-Do you experience the same pain when sitting on a different seat or non motorcycle chair? If so, you may be able to see the cause and effect of different positioning. Good luck since riding is no fun if the back side is not happy. Wasn't talking about your wallet either.

I just got mine in Daytona and the ride home was so much better 700 miles and my right knee did bother me some but kept changing position, but it got better as we traveled....give it some time.

It does take time to break in a seat....I remember having the same thoughts back in 2009 when I bought a corbin seat.

I am wondering if maybe you have an alignment problem with your body. Possibly finding a good chiropractor could solve this issue. I have heard of several motorcyclists having issues like this that was relation to needing an adjustment.

If that doesn't work I am sure that Ultimate seats will work out something with you as they are a great company.

If you ride with a wallet in a rear pocket, REMOVE it. Speaking from experience, that can make a huuuuuge difference.
