• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The Spyder brings families together....

I wish I could have rode with my dad before he passed. Hope he finds one soon and you guys can ride together.:doorag:

I'm 32 years old. My father is 55. Reading your post and all the others on this thread, I realize I'm in a very blessed position to potentially be able to have these moments for many years. But I won't let our "youth" be taken for granted. Each ride will be treated as if it could possibly be our last day on earth together.

My parents and Kris' are gone as well. My dad rode in his younger days. He had a '35 or '37 Indian. He taught me most of what I know about wrenching. Kris and I ride together frequently. She learned from me how to drive the Spyder. She had never driven a bike before and would not ride with me on two wheels. Enjoy your time together.

That's a great idea Shelby. I have an RSS. I'm very ignorant to these headsets. Do I need to buy a special helmet? Is my bike compatible for it? What system is good?

I'm probably gonna have to research old threads, because I have never dealt with these before. I know absolutely nothing.....

Both Sena, and ScalaRider bluetooth have a pretty good range for bike to bike communications. If looking at Sena, the SMH-10 has a longer range than the SMH-5. There are also probably some that will use the "family Radio Service" frequencies - kind of like the radios you can pick up at Radio Shack, but I'm not familiar with those. I do suspect they would have a longer range than the bluetooth though.

Is this it?

That looks right. Just make sure it's the SMH-10 model. I believe the range is about 300 feet for those. Plenty if you are riding together.

The boom will go up and under the helmet fine... I had it on my Scorpion EXO-900, which is modular, and the chin bar is very close to the face. With a regular full face helmet, you should have plenty of room for the boom / mic to fit.

We have the Scalarider G9. Stated range is one mile. They work good for bike to bike, radio doesn't work too well but then we really don't use it. One thing to remember, all of these are line of sight use and the true distance is stated as line of sight in the small print. I was sitting in the driveway by the garage door while Bruisersbaby went down the road and within 1/2 mile we could barely hear each other and it was pretty much garbled speech. So if you're one a road and you go over a hill and you're running partner is lagging behind you could loose radio contact. Just like FR and GMRS radios. That being said, I still wouldn't be without them.
