The RISERS that are no longer available

BLUEKNIGHT911

Sadly Passed Oct 2024 - RIP
...As stated above from what I hear Custom Dynamics or ESI or Black Magic etc are no longer producing this style ( ie Dog bone ) RISER ....... However if you have an SE trans I found something that is just as good - if not better...... back before the Spyder Risers were commercially available, I put some from the Snow-mobile world on my 08 GS ...... If you are interested go here ...DENNIS KIRK.COM in the box enter ...595895 - ( these are 4 inch ) they make different sizes ...... under the pics click on - more risers ........ Mike

Interesting

... information Mike... very helpful to the forum! I finally just installed a set of Custom Dynamics 4.5" that I got from a member. Wasn't sure I would like them but I do!
Thanks!
Dan

Thanks a lot for the information. I would like to get a set for my 2012 rs. How tall can I go without having to change any lines or cables?

how tall

Thanks a lot for the information. I would like to get a set for my 2012 rs. How tall can I go without having to change any lines or cables?
Well I think the ones from Custom Dynamics were advertised to be 4 1/2 inches..... When I did mine ( on an 08 GS ) I used one from DK at 3in. but I already had the BRP extension & think that was 1 1/2in. =4 1/2in....... At any rate I went in and cut a few wire ties and had no problem with finding enough cable. I don't think you would want more than 4 in. but 5 is doable imho........... PS the reason all this info is now coming out again is a fellow member ...." mcalva "...... asked about the option for RT handle bars ...... I remembered someone had done something similar a couple years back....... It was to an ST ..... But the ST & RT bars are very, very similar in HOW they are made so this is doable also........ Plus even the older style handle bars can be cut the same way that they were done for the GS & RS etc......

INFO FOR BLACKLIGHTENING

If you must get the risers from Dennis Kirk, go to Home Depot or Lowe's Plumbing Dept. and buy a 2ft.piece of thick wall ( or reg. ) 3/4in. copper pipe. They are 7/8 in. OD and a perfect fit for the OEM ( or other ) Grips.... You will have to put a hole in the top,( of the pipe ) because there is a plastic NUB inside the plastic controls that prevents them from rotating, you can't ( shouldn't try ) make them tight enough without breaking the plastic....If you don't have an SE trans .... the RSI risers will still work ( mine did ) but you will have to grind out an area for the Brake fluid container + I would only use 3 or 4 in. max because of the brake cable ..... good luck ....TAKE PICS :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:....................Mike

think i'll get a set of these risers from DK. wiring isn't an issue as I can extend it if need be. wondering about and expect I will have to change out the hydraulic clutch line. that'll be a p.i.t.a. being 6'3", I need my grips higher and tri axis bars are out of $$$$ reach for me.

Mike, I don't think 3/4 copper tube would have strength for safe use for handle bars. Better would be to find an old set of 7/8 bars and cut what you need. It would be stronger. I think ESI used solid rod for their risers.

i'd planned on using solid rod stock and having any milling required done at a friends machine shop

Now you're talkin'!
I think that the solid pieces would even to help reduce any unwanted "Bar-Buzziness" too.

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

It would cost you some money to test it ...... but if you put a 10 inch piece of 3/4 copper pipe into a 7/8 piece of pipe ( to hold it ), then put the 7/8 piece into a vise ...... I doubt you could bend it with less than 200 lbs pressure. How much pressure do you think it takes to move the handle bars of an RT Ltd. with the motor OFF....... If anyone is still nervous put a wood dowel in it, or get a steel pipe :thumbup::thumbup:.........Mike .....PS, Both my 08 GS and 2011 RSS had the copper pipe for years and they never bent...........PPS, I just measured a piece of 1/2 inch steel plumbing pipe and it's a hair smaller than the above copper, so you might have to use glue on the grips, but the Risers from RSI will close tight ........

My only concern would be in an emergency, when you resort to super human strength to avoid a situation. Otherwise copper tube should work. Get type K copper if available, as it is thicker. Type M is the thinnest and Type L is normal water service thickness. Type K is extra heavy thickness.

Not to be argumentative, but in that Emergency, the Spyder would be Moving, and would actually require much LESS effort to turn than if " standing still with the motor off " as I stated above......... I new about type M & L pipe ... never heard of " K " ..........M

RSI 5" risers are here. soon as I get the 7/8" stub rods made up it'll be game on. going to leave the controls on the factory stubs. should be easier. will put a picture up here when it is done. hard to tell what it'll look like but it should be more comfortable. and to me that is what counts.

CONTROLS ?????

I'm curious as to how you will be able to do this ?????? ...... Are you just going to add separate grips higher up and then have TWO pair ???? ...................... Mike

going to remove the existing stub bars that the grips and controls are mounted to, install new shorter stubs in their place and add these risers, then install the factory stubs with controls and grips onto these risers.417U+ma5FtL.jpg

I will be anxiously watching.

Is there enough extra wiring in place, to allow for this?
Or will you be practicing your electrical skills also?
Good luck!

If you are adding these risers on a RT I can see removing the studs and adding new studs. I think the problem will be no having enough slack in the cables and wires to do this. 4 1/2 inch risers are pushing the limits.
