• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The perfect Spyder seat?

Take this seat: http://kontourseat.com/id3.html

add this back rest http://utpr.com (updated link 6-30-15)

equals the perfect seat!

First they have to make both available for the Spyder. Actually the seat is available now. Send in your stock seat and for $*** ($*** for the rider only with their foam, passenger seat with matching fabric only) it will become a Kontour seat!

I'm working on it! Stay tuned...

Backrest

Utopia has a backrest that fits the RT-S and is adjustable up, down, forward and back. It also folds down for getting on or off.
This seat is extremely comfortable and matches the stock seat upholstery.
I installed one in about 30 minutes last week :spyder2:

Utopia Back Rest

I too have a Utopia backrest. It is easy to install, looks OEM and is very comfortable. Material and stiching matches stock RT seat perfectly.:2thumbs::2thumbs: Len

I don't need a backrest, proven to myself in back to back iron butts and over 20,000 miles overall. However, I would have liked to try out the Kontour seat. It would end up being about $100 - $150 more than what I paid for the Russell but the special fabric they use to cover the seat and the claimed waterproof qualities would make it worth it to me.

Well, I may be a bit biased but I now believe I am the proud owner of the perfect Spyder seat! I just received my new Kontour seat with a Utopia backrest covered in the front with the same material as the seat, Polar Mesh.

I am 100% satisfied with the seat so far but now I need to ryde it and enjoy it. Stay tuned for a long distance ryde report!

a few more.

Nice looking seat. I would have considered it had I known about Kontour Seats back when I was getting my Russell. What seat did you have before Rando? One day, we should meet for lunch and I'd like to take a "trial sit" on your Kontour just for reference.

Well, after ryding most of the day today, I give the Kontour seat a big - :2thumbs:

The only problem is now my wife wants one for her Spyder!

Does the Kontour Seat still tilt you forward like the stock seat? It is hard to tell from the photos. It also appears that the seat sits slightly lower than the stock seat, but again hard to be sure. I have wondered about the outer support features compared to the Russell Day Long.

Website Info for Kontour Seats

The website is www.kontourseat.com. I tried their phone number to see if I could get a few questions answered, but got an answering machine. They do note on their website that they are very busy building seats during the day, so may not be able to answer the phone. They also promise to call back so I may leave a message next time. I am not ready to order yet, so did not want to waste their time. Lots of info on the website FAQ section and Features and Benefits section. I am still curious if the riding position is changed. They noted that they answer emails quickly, so may try that option.

Basically the same, just a bit lower. They use the stock shell. I am extremely pleased with it but then again I have never been on a Corbin or a Russell so I can't give you an honest comparison.

Seat Position

My riding stance is more like a cruiser ride with my feet flat on my Seal floorboards. The stock seat pushes me forward and down hill. I find this angle very uncomfortable even after shorter rides. I have placed my Airhawk on the seat which seems to help, but have not used it on rides yet. It has not been the best riding weather since I installed the Seal Floorboards. I am wondering if the Kontour or Russel seats still have that forward tilt of the stock seat

The custom seats are quite an investment and there are very few Spyders in SE Missouri to compare. It would really be nice to see a Kontour or Russell seat on the bike and give it the 'sit' test. I would love to hear from other Spyder riders in SE Missouri, so feel free to PM me.

Maybe there will be some different seat options at Spyderfest

Hi. I now have the seals and like them a lot but I still am having a flexability problem in the hips and lower back I have discovered that if I sit on a couple of pillows it helps greatly. how high do you suppose the airhawk can be made to raise me and what size do you have?

Airhawk recommends you only inflate with a minimum amount of air. If you over-inflate, it loses the cushioning effect. Therefore it will only raise you a little bit. I suppose you could blow it up so it would raise you 2-3 inches but it may not be very comfortable.
