The Most Expensive Spyder Upgrade EVER!

We too are looking at retirement from our "day jobs", hopefully in less than 2 years. The soonest will be May or June of 2014. It will really depend on how fast we can sell our farm, which will help fund transition into retirement. There will not be a 2nd Spyder as the wife made it clear she does not want one of her own. The Hershey RV show is not a spring show. It is in September. That's where we made our purchase. The garage in the Voltage 3200 is 10 ft. A 12 ft garage would have been a little nicer, but I have an access issue at my place with a steep grade railroad crossing and ~35 ft is about all I can get in and out with. That's why we went with the 35' model.

The Voltage is a really nice unit. I worked part time at Safford RV during the summer doing delivery walk throughs with customers and I demo'ed several of these. What dealer did you buy from? I still like our 40' diesel motorcoach / cargo trailer combo setup. We're looking at eventually upgrading to a new 43' tag axle diesel coach with two baths and full wall slideout. Nice to have the extra space since we live in it for four months in S. Florida during the winter.

I bought my Voltage from Camping World in St. Augustine. I have done the motor home route also. My last was a 45' Country Coach Affinity. What a life style!

Our Damon garage is only 8 x 10 ft...we haul a fair amount of stuff in it (two bicycles, a ladder, cooler, Spyder, 2 lawn chairs, toaster oven, fans, etc, etc). I don't think we can get both Spyders in there...if it was 2 feet longer, 2 Spyders would be doable. Ed has installed a couple shower rods so we can hang all our jackets, chaps, etc. The rods come in handy for hanging laundry, too.

I feel so inadequate....

I just bought a 2009 22' Continental Cargo Toy Hauler. :) Minimalistic, but I can poop in it and take a hot shower. :D

After a trial run with it last weekend, I want a bigger one.:banghead:

I got the new toyhauler home Saturday night with only one minor incident. It was the one that I was most worried about. I dragged the back end on the road entering my driveway. :yikes: I bent the license plate and holder and scrapped the paint off the bottom edge of the ramp door frame. Fixing this will be my first modification. Last night ordered a set of extra heavy duty trailer skid wheels for under the back end. Since we got the automatic hydraulic leveling system, the mounting plates for the standard leveling jacks are unused and are positioned perfectly for mounting the skid wheels. This will hold the back end 5" off the road when it would otherwise drag going in and out of steep inclined entries.

The wife realized that this unit does not have near the amount of galley (kitchen) storage as our previous one did. So, the 2nd mod will be add some shelves in some of the cabinets and a few more storage cabinets in the galley area. I've already scoped out a plan for this and it should not be any problem as there is a 4 section recliner in the main living and galley area that has sections that can be removed individually. I will remove one or two of these and build matching storage cabinets in their place.

We bought directly from Dutchman through Camping World reps at the Hershey show in September. The local dealer that managed the sale was Grumbines RV in Harrisburg PA. They are a new Camping World franchise. I was told Saturday when we picked up the unit that they will be breaking ground soon on a new building for a full service Camping World store, sales and service center.

CongratulationS on the toy hauler!, so will the spyder be fitting in the back like the photo below?

Novice questions here: What type of vehicle do you need to pull something like this? You said you ordered the Voyager, so what are some must have's, I read where you learned about the driveway- needing some extra wheels? Something like this may be in my future. Way to go, hope to see you and your rig at a future event

We got the VOLTAGE, by Dutchman. Not "Voyager". I have a Ford F350 Super Duty SRW (single rear wheel) to pull it with. The "must haves" in addition to the garage are: onboard generator, automatic self leveling system (this is an age related luxury), large double wide fridge (never enough room in regular RV fridges), separate main bedroom, washer dryer hookup (we plan extended travel in the future) and bunks in the garage area for the grandkids. Although we could do without many of the included nice to have options, the one that we find most unneeded is the 4 TV sets.

If the Spyder wouldn't fit, we wouldn't have bought this model.

Please post some pictures when you get the cabinets built.

to answer the unanswered question

1. a 10 foot garage won't hold 2 spiders, nor an rt and full dresser, You would need at least at 12 foot garage. You would probably need 14 if you wanted to keep the washer in the garage.
2. F350 diesels and Dodge 2500. good luck finding the 3500 duramax as I believe the gov't is still waiting fir theirs.
3. I have a Heartland 38 foot toyhauler, an d with most of these, through upper cabinets are borderline impossible to use without a ladder. Travel trailers don't usually have this problem.
4. many of the toyhaulers would be maxed out in carrying capacity with two rt's which would top 2500 lbs.
That Voltage is a beautiful unit. Was the sticker really $86k?

:agree: Even with my 14' garage, it would be difficult sqeezing two Spyders in. And also agree with you on the upper cabinets. That's why I carry a ladder in the garage. I have just under 5000 lbs of load carrying capacity but two Spyders would push the limit. My sticker was just north of $100k however serious discounts can be found with careful shopping.

We were able to keep the sticker just under $70k with the factory discounts and extras offered at the Hershey show. If we bought with the same options outside of the show we would have added about another $15k. Even with the discounts we were more than twice what out 2010 5th wheel cost us. It's like having a mortgage on wheels. I should have my head examined. :banghead: But I do like it.

Factory incentives and show specials don't show on MSRP (sticker) only on sale price. If your unit is equipped the same as the one in the video clip, the sticker price would be the same. Tha sales price would reflect your discounts. :dontknow:

I stand corrected. I meant to say sale price. :cus:

Hey no problem at all. I just didn't want to scare away people that enjoy our special lifestyle. Enjoy that new unit and I hope we can get together soon. I'm going to check into those dolly wheels. Haven't had a problem yet, but I'm sure I will.
