The gas smell is killing us...

Got the new gas cap in the mail and installed it. Went for a ride the other day and every time we stopped, the gas smell was unbearable. Should I contact BRP directly (if so, how?) or just tell the service department at a dealer?

And this is NOT an issue with over filling. I stick the nozzle all the way in at fill-ups and when it cuts off, I stop pumping. Most times the last notch on the digital gauge doesn't even fill in.

It will do minimal good to contact BRP directly, as they will refer you to the dealer. Best to work this out through the dealer. Don't let them sluff you off...make sure they get in contact with BRP dealer tech support and pursue the problem as strongly as they can. You can contact BRP Customer Support to get some backing. You might want to register the problem with them up front just to grease the wheels.

This might sound dumb... pps:
The new cap takes a bit more effort to tighten down completely.
Are you sure that you had it tight?

May be a full canister, may be a loose fuel line spraying fuel on a hot part. Whatever the reason, a very good idea to get it fixed ASAP!

The recall for these gas cap are base on safety issue so lets take it seriously and report it properly. Fire and property damage, and injury, possibly fatal will result if ignore.

For a problem like this, I would not let anybody but your dealer touch it. Any number of things could be causing your problem and, BRP might say it is your fault unless your dealer does all of the investigation and repair work.

There's no sign of fuel dripping from the bike; correct? :yikes:

No sign of leaks and the cap is on tight, multiple clicks when turning it. I laid down and looked all under the bike and sniffed, lifted the seat and sniffed, shined a flashlight in every nook and cranny I could see and not sign of leaking fuel. I will certainly bring it to the attention of my servicing dealer and would not do any sort of fix-it myself. Thanks for all the suggestions.

This sounds like your new cap is faulty, ask your dealer for a replacement cap.
Immediately go back to old cap till you get to dealer and see if that helps.

I had gas smells that drove me crazy before receiving the new gas cap - after installing the new cap, the smells have completely vanished
