Its how they got around the looooooong belt issue.
Primary drive belt from the engine to the tranny on the left side
Secondary drive belt/chain on the right goes from the tranny to a transitional double pulley
Final drive on left goes from the double pulley to the wheel.

Lotsa monkey motion, but with the extended wheelbase due to the lowered seat, almost a requirement.

Ahhhhh I see now. Yup, looks like they just doctored up a left side view. This is the actual right side.
