I first heard when some police were talking about red cars being the fast ones. I think its because you can spot the red blur as it blows by. Thats why the phantom is faster you just cant even see it go by.

It is scientifically proven that silver is the fastest color, the wind doesn't know it is there to get in the way. Red is proven to be the coolest color but it draws air molecules just like it draws eye balls and cop cars, so it is, over the long term the slowest color. Yellow is only slightly faster then red.
