The BEST warranty...

:2thumbs: THANKS for the info! I had read where we should buy the extended warranty. I pick up my SM5 in a week or so. Any idea how much the extra warranty costs?

Do yourself a HUGE favor and buy the warranty when you get your bike...it will save you hundreds of dollars...originally, BRP allowed dealerships to sell the BEST after purchase for the same price...that quickly changed when BRP had to start shelling out money for problems...I know people don't want to hear this repeatedly, but the SE5 has been costing BRP a lot of money and it's being reflected in the extended warranties. I got confirmation of this from 2 dealerships...I ended up paying about $250.00 more for my warranty...had I bought it in August, I would've been better off...:sour:

Your dealer will offer it to you...work the price down as you're buying your bike...if you can get it for under $800.00, you're doing well...I had to pay closer to $1000.00 for mine...there is a surcharge of $75.00 for each year you want to extend the warranty when you get the BEST after you've had the bike...so, no matter what the price of the warranty is, I had to add $225.00 to it ($75.00 for years 3,4, and 5)...

This whole issue is quite fascinating when you look at it closely. First, BRP has not had to shell out one solitary cent for BEST repairs. All the Spyders are still under the original warranty at this time. Price changes can only be due to anticipation...sort of like oil prices. If you think about that a while, it means they may not be that optimistic about the continuing development of problems. Of course the other alternative is that they just feel a need to cover their rising costs for everything. Their prices have also gone up on the Spyders themselves, and some accessories and parts. Whatever the reason, with the surcharge structure, it certainly does pay to buy the BEST warraty when you purchase the Spyder. If you finance, it can be included in your loan, if need be. We bought it when we got the Spyder. Nothing new to the market, with this much electronics, should go unprotected, IMO.

Here in Michigan, I had to give the state $1,000 for the right to buy the Syder (6% sales tax) so paying BRP $1,000 for 3 years extra protection was a no brainer on a first year electronics loaded complicated piece of hardware.

Interesting thoughts about the fact that no claims will be filed on the BEST warranty for the first 2 years of ownership. I heard various prices from people from $500-$1100 - dealers were charging different amounts.

I believe the BEST warranty is most likely an insurance policy BRP purchases from a 3rd party with our money - so the price increase may not be due to BRP at all.

I agree - gotta have it on an item like the Spyder!

I can totally understand what is going on there. When BRP originally priced the BEST they were expecting a certain amount of claims for the original warranty. This amount is most likely higher than expected and therefore changes their expectations of the future, increasing the BEST cost.

It sucks for the consumer, but it is required for them to prevent high future losses.

In my opinion it was well worth every penny for our BestPlus warranty. I do not remember exactly what we paid but I think it was around $1000 for the 3 year extended warranty. Anyway, of course the first 600 mile service check was paid for including the oil change under the BestPlus. Today, I picked up my spyder that I had taken in for the 12,000 mile check. Because I am on my third dash cluster, they thought I only had 9000 miles on my spyder and redid the 6000 mile or 1 year check. When I pointed this out to them, they said no problem they would complete the 12,000 mile things on the maintenance chart when I bring it back next week to install my new rear tire. Many of the things they did anyway as they were checking my front end due to my front tire issue. But back to my BestPlus. My best surprise of all, is that everything was covered, including my oil change and the parts for the oil change under the warranty. I only paid for my new front tires and the labor to have them installed. That is service to me and worth having the extra coverage. Also, knowing if I have a major breakdown, I have the roadside service and a $50.00 deductible on repairs.

My BEST warranty ran $900. Was quoted an extra $900 if I wanted the PLUS. If you got the BestPlus for $1000 - you got a great deal!

Now that you mention it, I think it was closer to $1300, something like $1280 for each of us for the Plus. I still am very glad I got it.

I also forgot to mention, they did replace under warranty my gear position sensor and replaced my gaskets and repaired an exhaust leak.

You made out quite well!

I didn't go with the plus as maintenance costs can be spread out over a long period of time...however, the plus is a great deal if that is what you paid for it...it is much more now!

Purchased my spyder a year ago. Have not rec'd anything from BEST regarding extended warranty so called BRP. Their computer system didn't show me as the owner of the spyder. Called my dealer...they don't even show me in their computer system. Hmmm...said they'd get back to me asap.

<<Hi-jack alert>> I noticed the A-10 in your photo. Do you fly them? I think it's an absolutely awesome machine!

You've got that right! I am so bummed that they changed the base mission here in Battle Creek, and moved our A-10s to Selfridge. Cargo planes are not anywhere near as much fun.

:agree:

I purchased my 2014RTS-SE6 Cognac on July 30,2014, I have 3 year warranty the manufacture warranty expires on 8/5/2016, then the B.E.S.T Warranty kicks -in until 8/5/2017.

The B.E.ST warranty was transferred from my 2012rt-se5 which I traded-in for my 2014RTS-SE6 Cognac. Deanna
