The Battery I Chose To Use

Many Thanks to those who gave recommendations on my battery replacement thread. After weighing all the comments and doing quite a bit of research I have decided to go with an X2-18L X2 Power AGM Battery. I found it on a BatteriesPlus website and then saw they had a local store. On the website the battery was priced at $119.99 in the store it was $109.99. I spoke with Tony, one of the owners, at the store and we look at some of the batteries that were selected. One of the deciding factors for me was the battery is actually made in America, and it has a 24 month Free replacement. It's CCA is 330, 12V, 20AH. I will be doing this install on Monday and will let you all know how it goes. Guess I will need to start taking my pain killers now.:joke:

For those of you in the Pensacola area of Northwest Florida the local store is now called BatteryPlus + Bulbs. As I said Tony is one of the owners.

Ok, well once again thanks for the input on the type of batteries you all use.

YOUR NEW BATTERY

I wish you well, you saved some money and that's not a bad thing.......But for that $ 20 you gave up a 5 amp /hrs better Battery ....That's 20 % better and considering the parasitic loss the RT's seem to have .............Mike

Hands down the best specs I found was on the Odyssey PC680. 680CCA for 5 seconds and 525CCA for 20 seconds and 17Ah. That's enough to bring any 2010 RT to life, through a couple of hot start failures.

The battery is in

Ok, so lets see, yes I saved some money over the PC 680, I do a majority of my shopping locally to support the local business people. There were a couple of places here that sold the pc 680, one wanted 161 and the other wanted 151 for it. After doing the research and shopping around I chose the X2 Power battery. Price and the fact that it was made in American were two of the +++ for the choice. ( I know that most of you don't know me so you are not aware that Price is always a factor for me being on a fixed income. Disability only goes so far.) I also talked with the people I know that ride around here, everything from scooters to choppers and come to find out that most are using the X2 family of batteries.

So taking out the yusa battery was harder then putting in the X2. It slipped into place easily and placing the holding strap and reconnecting the power wires was also fairly simple to accomplish.

So once again I have to mention I am not a wrencher but after doing the mods and upgrades over this past week I am no longer (dare I say) afraid of wrenching on my spyder, even though it takes me twice as long as most would take.

If anything should go wrong I will be the first to let you all know.

Thanks, and Be Safe. Time to ryde:doorag:

Sorry, I was only commenting on cold cracking amps and so forth. Was not trying to suggest you made the wrong choice in supporting a local business or US made products. You asked for advice and made your decision based on other valuable facts and that's worth more than anything. We all make our decisions based on what's important to us and you made the right choice. I would have gladly payed double for something US made and could have been picked up locally with the specs I was looking for. Since I was having tons of problems with my bike not starting, then not having enough juice left to crank it, cold crank and reserve were huge. Just wanted to note it, in case others were looking for the same specs.

As it sits, once the TB was replaced, it's rarely acted up and then starts on the second try if it didn't on the 1st, so CCA and reserve have less critical.

Again, sorry to have made a different impression.

CCA is only critical if you start your SPYDER or any other thing that needs a BATTERY to start it : if you live in the "ARTIC". Just sayin.......I'll take a Battery with a high A /H rating over a CCA rating anyday......Mike

So, just for my own education, a 500 CCA battery will perform as well as a 250 CCA battery in 90 degree temps? Out here in the desert we get two years tops out of cheaper batteries, so a lot of people look for gel or dry cell options for better heat resistance. I was told the higher CCA batts have tougher plates and don't warp in the heat as easily. Is that true, or just a bill of goods?

I also just found out Odyssey is either made in US or UK, so that's good to know too.

That was said more as an attention getter than anything else :roflblack:......But seriously folks, many people get all EXCITED about the CCA ( cold cranking amps ) their battery has and I don't understand WHY ? ? ?...... I live in VERMONT and have seen temps as low as -50 degree's ......so you might think HE needs a Battery with a lot of CCA,......But NO I don't ....because I rarely drive the Spyder when it's that cold ......and if I do I just " JUMP START IT " with my Snowmobile Battery which has about 780 CCA.......:hun:. :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: .......Mike
