• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The attention is nice however.....

When I first got the RT I loved the attention, now it has become almost too much. Everywhere I go someone wants to discuss the RT. They want to know "how fast it goes," where the dealers are located, who makes it, the mpg, and the price. The price is often where they stop saying "I could buy a car for that and it would get better gas mileage. I try to explain that I did not get it for the mpg, and that the price was comparable to a Goldwing.

Seriously it is difficult to go to the gas station for a fast fill-up without adding an extra 10 minutes every time. The uniqueness and attention are great, but I am noticing that 90 percent of the people who ask about it are 1-over 60, 2- used to ride when they were younger-and love to give you every detail, 3- they discuss a friend who was in an accident, 4- they want to know if it "drives like a car," and if you need a special license.

Lastly many times they ask to sit on it and end up scraping their foot across the seat even after explaining how to mount it.

Anyway, my complaint is minor, but i do wonder if others find the constant attention to be getting old to a point?

I am not an overly social person nor do I sell Spyders. But, I continue to be fascinated by the attention the Spyder gets. Great conversation starter and not a burden.

:agree: We've started taking turns: one does the fueling up while the other answers the questions. . . .
We did have one guy reach up and crank on the throttle on the RT . . . :yikes:Vaughn said he thought he was gonna have to pull the cat off him! . . . . . and nobody better even try to sit on either of our Spyders! :lecturef_smilie:

:agree: Shauna and I do the same thing. One fills up and the other feilds questions.:doorag:

So it must be a Pennsylvanian thing, as I get young men and women who ask about it. You are

right that the most often asked questions are how fast, price, mileage, but if they begin with

whats it called? and is it a motorcycle or a cross between ?...., I take over from there and say

it has everything your car has, automatic paddle shift, electric window/windshield, cruise

control and AM/FM/XM and ipod. By then their mouth is usually open and if they ask where

did you get it, I had them the pocket brochure that BRP sent me, and say check the web

site for a demo ryde.

I also know how celebrities feel when they are just out for a stroll or at a restaurant.

If you are tired of people asking to sit on it, tell them the website BRP.com and arrange

a demo ride. Save your bike the scuff.

I have found cage drivers to be very courteous whether in town or on the freeway, and i always use my signals.

Your complaint is not minor, and if this continues to happen, check the lemon laws for your

state and if none such exist then write a letter to your congressman to see what can be done

about this harassment, and if it continues to be just old men that are approaching you, then

just make up a foreign language and they will leave you alone. And you get to do some acting ta boot :ohyea:

And if that doesn't work blame BRP for making the most
exhilarating awesome, forward thinking breakthrough in more
than two and less than 4 wheel rYding. EVER!
and hey 2manycarsyour apart of it

Eat some baked beans before you go and let it rip if anyone comes near you. They won't wanna talk after that :)

It definitely comes with the territory. We've been doing it this way for 2 1/2 years now. Come under the heading of "If you don't want to be a rock star, don't buy a guitar!" :D I will say the RTS seems to draw less attention than the GS did. In time you will learn to politely go about your business and explain that you are in a bit of a hurry. Helps to keep your full-face helmet on, too. I don't think I am rude, but I have learned to yak while I fill. :D

I am so used to it that it's become second nature... been fielding questions for 2 1/2 years now. Actually on Sunday we took a little ride up the delta to old town Sacramento (where the Spyder battery bit the dust by the way). While parked in a decent shady spot in 98 degree weather taking the Spyder apart to get to the battery and hanging with my friends with their orbital blue RT we must have talked to nearly 2 dozen people in those 2 hours we were sitting there with nothing to do but wait for the hubby to get back from CycleGear with a new battery.

Even caught my husband letting some woman sit on my Spyder to take pictures while I was off getting ice cream. :)

We run into pretty much the same stuff here in Alaska. When spouse and I pull into anyplace and park--the people come over to chat and ask questions. It does seem true that the RS gets more attention that the RTS. That's okay with me, as then the spouse has to answer all the questions. We carry the BRP info cards with us and pass them out when we think they are a hot prospect for a Spyder. I think that BRP should give us a referrel commission when someone buys one as a result of our being Spyder Ambassadors by virtue of owning the product. I know of two people that bought Spyders as a result of running into us when we were out and about.

I don't expect the attention getting level to die down anytime soon. Once the television commercials started airing, I have actually had even more people coming up to me. First thing many of them say is I saw that thing on TV, but have never seen one in person.

I always plan for at least 15 minutes at each gas stop during a trip. If I can get out of there faster than that, then it is a little bonus toward time needed for the next stop. :D

Thankfully, I love my Spyder and don't mind talking about it at all. I have actually been asked several times if I sell them, or been told that I should sell them. I just think that is a polite way of telling me I talk too much. :roflblack:

I get tons of questions, I even have people waiting for me to come out of a store so they can talk to me about it.

It's a little unnerving to get so much attention from a $25,000 trike when I drive cars worth 40X as much and nobody pays the slightest bit of attention.

Took an extra 20 minutes today

I pulled into a grocery store parking lot, and the guy getting into the car next to me had to ask questions-speed comfort, can I sit on it etc. After he was done a second shopper stopped to ask questions. I started to head for the store and a challenged man using an electric cart asked about it- I was happy to discuss it with him, and I told him he could get a handbrake since he said he did not have much strength in his legs.

Anyway off I went to shop. Only one guy asked me about it as I was loading groceries-I told him I really had to run sine my frozen food was melting-by the way it amazes me how many bags of grocers I can fit in the RT using all compartments.

I still find it fun talking about the Spyder. I can only think of one time I became somewhat annoyed. I had to use the restroom, otherwise I don't mind the questions at all.

When Asked?
Price:....... if you have to ask you cannot afford it.
MPG......... At today's prices... Ditto Price.
Speed...... I turn on the console and let them peek.
OMG, 200 they say... I don't respond.
How fast have you driven it?? "speed Limit" I respond.
Where can you buy it? Most CAN AM Dealers.

I have been think about printing the above on a card and just hand it to them as I get my fuel and pit stop.

attention on my spyder was dwindling til brp's bombardment of commercials. now i get a lot of "hey i saw this on tv"

Attention Getter

I'm on Spyder #2. I put 17,000 miles on my RS model and have 5,000 on the RT and I never, ever get tired of answering questions. Admit it, you must have thought it was pretty awesome before you made the purchase. I had only seen my first Spyder in a newspaper article, not on the road, so I wasn't prepared for the looks and questions. My feeling is you need to worry when people quit asking! I LOVE MY SPYDER!:2thumbs::ohyea:

I attended a Gold Wing Road Riders Rally last weekend. One event was a downtown vehicle show along main street. Lots of old cars and lots of bikes. Across from me were a 56 Thunderbird and a 55 Chev. Their owners came over and if I could send the vistors over to them when I was done. I said, Yes. They did buy me ice cream. I must have talked to 5,000,000,000 peopole or so it seemed.

Have fun out there.
