There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. That "Low Sun" in the Sky...

Since I'm riding later this year than normal; I've noticed that the "Low Sun" is a bit of an issue with my eyeballs...
I am very sensitive to glare, and my HJC helmet has a drop-down sun visor.
But has anybody tried adding a strip of dark film across the top of their visors; to try and block out the Sun when it always seems to be pointed right at you?

They make commercial ones available on Amazon. Have not tried it, but looks to be exactly what you are talking about. I just wear my sunglasses under my flip-down visor on my HJC helmet.

I have three H J C helmets and have supervisors on them. It's like bill on a cap. I would not want to ride with out one.

A good quality mirrored shield does it for me. I ride these dawn to dusk and never have to flip anything. The down side is I have to carry a clear shield (or flip this one up) if I'm going to be riding at night. But it's not a big deal to me. The view with a mirrored shield is much sharper than with a tinted shield and I don't have to worry about going from a very bright environment to a very dark one (like riding into an unlighted tunnel). Granted, that doesn't happen often. But it only has to happen once to get your attention.

Super-Visor

I think this is the Super-Visor that Grayfox was talking about. I've had one of these on my last two helmets and I'll never be without one from here on out.

I use a strip of electric tape, works for me..

I've been doing this for years............

Just use strips of black electrical tape across your visor. Easy to install and easy to remove and doesn't hurt your visor. It's also adjustable according to the seasons. Add a strip, remove a strip or over lap a strip, how ever want. Currently I have my dark visor completely covered with black tape and it works very well. My visor is adjustable in small increments, so if I'm going up hill into the sun or down hill into the sun I can easily adjust the visor to block the sun for any circumstance. Hope this helps and happy trails.

Here's what I did. I cut off part of the visor so that when it is in the full down position it provides shade without blocking my vision. I then covered it with the plastic sun screen for car windows that you can find in auto parts stores, or probably even Wally World. The advantage of the sun screen is it does not block vision 100% so you can still see through it, although quite darkly. If your visor is outside of the helmet then put the sun screen on the backside so wind doesn't blow it off. I don't need the sun block for ordinary driving as my glasses darken quite well while riding.

I thought about using tape: electrical and duct! I dismissed them, because I didn't want to actually block the vision; just cut the sunlight to a less-painful level. :D
I got a roll of the 95% sunlight-blocking material that they use to make car windows illegal... I think that I'll try a 2" strip of that across the top of the visor...

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

I had an old biker many years ago give me this advice "Never live west of where you work". This was never an issue until a few years ago when I moved, now I understand, on my commute the sun is in my eye going to and from work.

Back about 1987 I worked at Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois. I was riding a Kawasaki 440 with a mirror on both handlebars. There were a few days each spring and fall when the sun was just right as I was going into work I had stereo sunshine in my eyes!

Also have the HJC with built in shade:thumbup: & enough room to have my shades on so when facing right direction I can double my tint:2thumbs: & still have main visor open for cool air. Most trips in town anything under 50mph. I can leave the modular chin up.

Hey Bob,

I think you can buy darker drop down shields for your helmet. I don't know what model you have but here is an example.

The last time I got caught with the low sun in my eyes, it was blinding and painful to look. I was having to tilt my head down to help block the sun with my helmet. The electrical tape idea sounds good. my helmet has a flip down sun visor but even it was no match for this sun. when I pull it all the way down it rubs on my nose so i have learned to pull it one notch from all the way down. My idea would be to have the strip of tape for the full down position. If it rubs my nose a little, Its still better than fighting that sun.

Thanks!
Unfortunately; I've got so many serious eyeball problems going on, that I can only use clear visors...
I have sever Diabetic Retinopathy; suffered a detached retina in the left orb, and have had all of the photocoagulation treatments that an eyeball can take... nojoke
As a result; I'm completely night-blind, yet I'm also super-sensitive to glare and bright lights also...
 It's a rough situation, but I keep on truckin'
