• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

THANK YOU SPYDERLOVERS

Today I did my first oil change, all made possible because of the advice and videos on this site. Was nervous knocking off the mirror but after that it went well, again thanks to all.

Good news..!!

glad we were able to help...you really have to knock off the mirrors to change your oil..?? Congrats....:2thumbs:

I guess I need to find those threads and learn to change the oil also. I just got a simple oil & filter change, with no other service, and they charged 1 hour labor. Is that realistic? Methinks $170 for a simple oil change is a bit much. (Although I did get the complimentary pressure-wash job too.)

You don't have to pull any tupperware off other than the lower black panel and black wing in front of it. One screw and one pushplug on forward wing and it comes off, then two forward screws on footplate loosened, and wriggle the panel off. This allows you to get at the transmisson filter. Theres instructions elsewhere for drilling a hole in the plastic strut to get a long tool to the rear screw on the filter cover.

FYI ............. You do not have to knock the mirror off to change the oil (except on older models) :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

Teddy would like to Welcome you & also make a suggestion for you

We couldn't agree with you any more about what a :firstplace:GREAT :firstplace: resource this site is to ALL of US  Without the help and information from this site & its members, I hate to admit it, but Teddy & I wouldn't be able to still be ryding his Red Sled:(

With that being said, Teddy wanted me to suggest for you to invest $20 & purchase yourself a Spyder Maintenance & Repair Manual if you intend on doing some of your own service. Before the Spyder came into our lives, I never even changed my own oil before :opps: But with having the manual & all the help from this site (just in case I don't understand something) we've saved well over $2 grand in maintenance costs over the past 3 years & over 60 thousand mile

The main reason I bring this up is, because a lot of ppl think they are getting ripped off from the cost of maintenance thru their dealer, but if you check your Owners Manual, there's alot more to a Recommended Service Interval than just your oil change. Its all listed in the manual, so I won't detail it here, but its very important to also check everything as recommended, otherwise you could easily put your warranty in jeopardy, all depending on your relationship with your dealer.

Here's a link for the 2012 RT if you'd like:

Me Too...

I also did my 1st oil change on the used '08 GS I bought. Didn't use YouTube though...just the school of hard knocks. All went well though & future ones will be much easier now that I have done it once. Oddly enough, i'm sort of looking forward to my next one as I don't really get to crack the tupperware open on the '13 ST-L very often.

its a 2012 but the lower black panel is hooked on with 4 bolts, brp/dealer must not have put "quick change panel" on bike. It was good learning how it all comes apart and goes together, I guess next go around I'll see if there is an easier way.
