• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Term Limits...

why can't i get the same health care?...i don't get the pension they have whether they do their job or just take graft and call it work.
If you work for a large corporation your medical insurance is basically the same. Feds don't have a "gold plated" insurance program in spite of what many people may think. Two downsides many private folks aren't faced with. My premium for insurance did not drop one penny when I retired even though I now have Medicare as primary. And if I drop the Fed coverage for even one month I can never pick it up again. The total premium, both Uncle Sam and my shares, is on par, or greater, than what some self employed and corporate employees get charged. Surprisingly, even with Uncle's clout as a large purchaser it does not buy medical insurance at a discount.

Uncle's retirement plan is much the same as any corporate defined benefit program. Those, of course, have been curtailed more and more by private industry. Believe me, many right leaning politicians would like to do the same to the Fed retirement program. It consists of Social Security, just like you, a saving program basically the same as your 401k called the Thrift Savings Program, and an annuity. If one does not put money into the TSP he/she will retire on a tight budget just like any private corporation employee would. Reagan slashed the annuity part when he pushed to have Feds become covered by Social Security and established the TSP.

As far as working or putting in time there is a problem to a fair extent. But large corporations suffer the same problem, albeit maybe not to the same extent. But Feds are very much constrained by rules and regulations created by Congress. They are also constrained, or forced to do things that are not smart, because of pressure brought by private industry onto Congressmen and Senators who then put pressure on Feds. It is not the purpose of Government to be efficient, its purpose is to be fair. That is a big difference.

I once told an Assistant Secretary of Energy, "True reform will NEVER take place in the Government procurement system until a Congressman or Senator is willing to defend a Federal employee against a campaign contributing constituent."
