Tell me your best Spyder story for a free t-shirt

I know I posted this before, But it's my best story, and I sticking to it!

Accidental burnout while waiting at a red light.

Two Harley riders pulled up beside me at a stop light yesterday on my way home from work.
They commented "Cool bike! looks like a jet ski!"
I said "ummm yes".
Then I let out the throttle a bit too quick and did a slight slideing burnout. Purely not intentional. Purely not showing off either; but it looked like it. ;D
I made a deal with myself not to do burnout as it will wear out my tires prematurely.
The Harley guys caught up with me again at the next light. :-[
...
They did ask what kind of engine was inside and then smiled. Light turned green and we were all off.
I still had the grin on my face... oops,, did I just burnout in front of them at that last light.... I guess I did.... kewl. Careful now... *** MUST KEEP WILL POWER UNDER CONTROL ***** MUST NOT BURNOUT WITHOUT SURE FIRE GRATIFICATION*****

HA!

Thanks, Deb, but I don't know if your vote counts with Lamont and his raccoon panel of judges!

(Of course, Brian probably doesn't need HIS shirt anymore...) :joke:

Okay Bro, send me your son's size and address seeing you're not going to get to wear it. :doorag:

I'e been on two wheels for over 30 years and a patch holder for most of them . When I retired my patch I wanted something different and low and behold along cam a Spyder. I took a demo ride by myself on the open road and found myself smiling like I did the first time on a bike. That feel, a breath of fresh air and newness was something of a rebirth for this ole greybeard. I plunked down some moner and was told alt least 3-6 weeks for dilevery. It took only 10 days and I was back in the wind, I guess it was meant to be that I'm the proud owner of a Full Moon and loving every ride once again. Lamount as a long time rider you understand and no morfe need be said. Thanks for letting me soud off

Now that's a good story with a happy ending. :congrats::spyder::yes::bowdown::cheers:

Okay 2 part story here.

Part 1. The wife and I went to Ft. Myers to get her new rain gear 2 weeks ago. I told her one of the places we were going sold Spyders and it could be an expensive day. So when we ride up they've got 2 sitting outside, salesman walks out and the wife says "I'm looking for rain gear and he wants to buy a Spyder" 30 minutes later and we're working a deal. Got an awesome trade value on my 08 KLR650 so we finally get out of there with the new Spyder and hit a nice rainstorm on the way home.

Part 2 (this is the funny part) So here we are a week later and I'm taking the Spyder down for its first service so the wife rides along cause she's getting a high output horn for her V-strom. Now the one thing I can't get used to about the Spyder is how the key slides into a sleeve instead of having a ring go through it. So I'm constantly leaving home without it (remember this part) Well we get the service done and her horn installed and we're heading home when we see some big storm clouds so the wife asks me to stop so she can put on her rain gear (we have bike to bike communications) So while we're stopped on the side of the highway she asks me if I'm putting my rain pants on and I say "no it doesn't look like a bad storm cell, probably won't get wet" So of course we ride into a huge storm complete with wind and lightening, the whole time my wife is saying through the intercom that "she's glad we didn't put our rain pants on". For about 35 miles of our ride there is absolutely no where to stop and take cover so we keep riding. Finally pull into the driveway and when I hit the remote button the garage door stays down. Well the storm knocked the power out. So there I am in my rain gear running around the house looking for an unlocked window, which I can't find. So I finally scale my 6ft privacy fence, still have my helmet on, and use my Spyders tool kit to try and pry open my backdoor of the house. Doesn't happen and eventually the power comes back on and I can put the garage door up again. This all happened of course because I can't get used to the sleeve for the Spyders key. So I'm having a spare house key made to put in my toolkit. :joke:

My best purchase....go to Home Depot and buy a new front door deadbolt with the 9 digit keypad. You program a code to unlock the door. Great for the kids or the occasional call from a parent "I'm at your house, where are you"? You can give them the code to wait inside.

Trike nightmare!

So last month I decided to join this group of hard core trike riders. :doorag: They were going on a group ride the following weekend and I really wanted to tag alone.
After filling out my profile and sending in a picture of my Spyder, I received the following message. “After further evaluation of your membership application, we regret to inform you that you will not be allowed to ride with the group unless your bike follows the following criteria: 1) bike cannot have more than three wheels.” I quickly ran outside and counted..one…two…three…woohoo..and “2) Bike must have two wheels in the rear of the bike and one additional wheel centered in the front of the bike.” After a second trip out to the Spyder, I quickly realized I have two front wheels. Who the hell designed this thing? It’s a big mess.
Of course this was very discouraging to hear so I had to quickly find a way to meet that criteria with my Spyder or not go on the ride. After a couple hours of brainstorming the idea, I finally figured out a way to still ride with the group.
I drilled a small hole in the center of the rear seat and attached a pivoting bolt. I then attached a 4 foot section of 1-1/2” abs piping to the bolt and tied a piece of rope to each end. The rope was then tied to the end of each handle bar allowing me to sit backwards and steer the bike in reverse. I did not have to worry about shifting since I only have one gear in reverse. A little duct tape to hold the throttle open and I was set.
I reached the meeting place and was told that I technically now “fit in” with the group. I was really excited to finally go on this ride with this group until I was quickly left behind in the dust. It turns out the damn reverse will only go about 8mph. What a disappointment. I cried the entire 2-hour ride home (I live 16 miles from the meeting place).
Hopefully they will have a school zone group ride in the near future so I can tag along.
That’s my story and I’m also sticking to it. Hey, no one said the story had to actually be true! Lamonster? Large works best for me. lol :joke:

This deserves a T-shirt for the best comedy. I laughed out loud, especially during the part that went...

I had a friend of my son's come over about a month after I purchased my spyder. He walked all around it with a face full of questions.

1. What the hell is it??? I answered a Can Am Spyder

2. What did you call it again??? the same thing I called it before!

3. How fast will it go do you think???? As fast as I want it to go!

4. What did you call it again???? It's a spyder!

5. I've never seen one of these, did your husband make it??? ummm

6. Are you going to be in the parade? Nope

7. That is sooooooo cool! Can I have a ride???? Sure, got a helmet?

After he gets back from the ride guess what he asked??? Yup, What did you call that thing??? :cus:
That is so awesome! Where did you get it? G&G Cycles in Mass.
Why didn't you buy one in Maine? They didn't sell them in the state yet.

8. How much does one of these things cost? Enough

9. Man! This is great! what do you call it again???? :yikes:
I then asked my son if they needed to get going.
Just couldn't stand it any longer. Later my son came home and said that his friend never shut up about the ride. But he didn't ask what it was again.

BRP changed my life!

Way back when, the Day Before Elvis Died, (if you don't remember,
I wish I was your age!) I had the misfortune to be going a bit to fast on my TX500 Yamaha and my front wheel tried to occupy the same space as the front wheel of a 4WD F-250. It didn't work well. Turned the truck into a Trike, the bike into a unicycle and me into a monoped!
Needless to say, bike riding hasn't been taking up a lot of my time for the last 31 years. Snowmobiles, ATV's and (really FAST) Go Karts yes, but the open road and I have not seen much of each other except thru a windshield. I did own a Hondamatic for a while that I adapted to hand shift, but I kept falling over at gas pumps  and I gave it up.
Suddenly, ALONG CAME A SPYDER !
The first time I saw a picture of the :spyder:on the web, I realized that the open road was coming back to me! No more tipping over at gas pumps! So what if it shifts on the side with no leg, I can adapt that somehow (just give me time) and there is no front brake lever to deal with so I can put the clutch over on that side! All ready have the master cylinder I used on my sled for the brake. Man, was I pumped! Only one problem, almost a year to wait! Oh well. I guess I'll just have to practice my patience some more. But there is some good news as during the wait, at a custom bike show in Tampa, I discover a lady selling Klicktronics Electric Shifters! Exactly what I need for my :spyder:!

It’s going to be FOREVER till the end of May. I spend a lot of time on the web envying you folks talking about how much fun your having on your spyders and about your plans to attend different events. April 30th the phone rings and my dealer tells me "Your Spyder is here." I can't believe it, it's here a month early! And I just read about some history making "Homecoming" thing at Valcourt. This means I will be able to attend an event with MY spyder!

As things turned out, the Valcourt Homecoming was definitely history making and I was a part of it. But the real important thing is that I have, thanks to BRP and the :spyder:, been able to rediscover something that has been missing in my life for over thirty years. The pleasure of riding the open road with the wind in my face!

Thank you BRP! I can’t begin to say how much pleasure I have gotten from your innovation in just the last 2 ½ months (over 4000 miles so far), not mention what the future holds for me.

Mike Murphy

It was great to meet you in Valcourt and to see what you did to make that work for you. You have a great look on life with all that you have to deal with.:doorag::spyder:
