• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Tell me about 2cyl Rotax motors vs 3cyl 1330's?

I would like to know your opinions and experiences you have had with the 2 cylinder engines compared to the 3 cylinder engine.
 
the 1330cc, is smoother, more HP / torque. doesn't use oil, doesn't need valve checks(hydraulic lifters), don't need to do canneristomy. some people still like the twin, I got my first Spyder with 1330cc - '15 RTL, just like easier to maintenance engine
 
There are many fine running V-twin Spyders out there running very well with lots of very satisfied owners and tens of thousands of logged miles. It really depends on whether one prefers a high revving engine or a torquer. One of the reasons the V-twins have to keep the revs up is because the semi-automatic transmission has a centrifugal clutch that has to spin fast to fully lock up where the 1330 ACE engine SE 6-speed transmission has a hydraulic mechanism that locks up almost instantaneously with a small twist of the throttle. All around the triple has longer maintenance intervals to boot. Lastly, if BRP didn't see the future of Spyderdom in the triple engine they would not have discontinued the V-twin engine. The pictures are from the BRP dealer presentation that was used when the 1330 engine was introduced.

My first spyder was a 2014 RT with the 1330. Great bike with lots of tq. and hp for touring, and some get up and go when needed. Next spyder was a 2012 RSS with the 990 engine. Loved the sound, loved the higher rpms, enough tq. to spin the tires easily. Felt a lot faster than the 1330 in the RT. Current spyder is a 2016 F3T with the 1330. It also had a larger rear sprocket, was lighter, and accelerated faster than the RT. To me, it felt slower than the RSS, but in reality, it was faster.
My results are that the 990 & 998 sound better than the 1330 will ever sound, regardless of the pipe. Had more tire spinning ability stock in the lighter RSS, but considering the heat and maintenance cost, I would always choose the 1330. JMHO
 
Our 2015 ST Limited had the 998 V-twin and it generally ran well, but here's what annoyed me the most:
-often after parking it, there was a strong gasoline vapor smell
-excessive oil usage. (about half a quart every few months)
-really disliked that huge 'clunk' when shifting into gear from neutral (it always made me cringe! The 1330 is a bit more subdued)
On the plus side, it has a more aggressive sound then the very mild 1330 and regular gas is recommended.
 
Both the Can-Am V-twin and triple engines have constant mesh transmissions, as do other motorcycles. Therefore, when shifting from neutral to 1st or Reverse both do so with a noticeable "clunk." It's the nature of the beast and does no harm to either the engine or transmission.
 
We ride with a mixed group most of the time. It is always the 998 crowd that determines our fuel stops. Just sayin'...
