Let me share this with you:

Flight and Hotel: £704.93 ($1185)
Taxes and fees : £422.67 ($710.50)

We in the UK also have to pay almost five and a half bucks for a (US) gallon of gas.

Over 60% of that is tax. (Fuel duty+20% VAT)
