There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I am new here. I have a friend that I used to ride with on Goldwings. He is about 6.6 and he just bought a 2011 RT and he has found out that he needs more seat room. His wife is a small woman and Hartco custom seat company was able to take some of her room and give it to him. I was wondering what options were available to him. It seems that the rider compartment is a bit smaller than the wing. Thanks for any help.

Let's see..!!

most of the aftermarket seats give the driver more room. (2" give or take) some lower you as well. You need to find some ryders with the different seats available. Comfort, Corbin, Ultimate, Russell Day Long to name a few...

Perhaps he needs a seat that raises him up a couple of inches... That would give him some more legroom. If he were to couple that, with grabbing some of the passenger's space; it might give him enough room.
Oh! Don't forget about some highway pegs...

Perhaps not really so

A comfort seat is about 2 inches further back for the driver..But less room for the passenger

I wrestled this pig extensively when researching the seat to use on my RT-S (didn't get dirty or annoy the pig either). I went so far as to have the local Spyder parts guy call Can-Am and they said the Comfort Seat does not encroach on passenger room when giving the driver 2" more room. You can see how they do it in the thumbnails, CS on left. The rearward taper from the driver backrest mounting hole is shortened on the Comfort Seat. On the seat profile thumbnails, again CS on left, you can see the lumbar support of the CS actually protrudes a bit more forward than the stock seat. The 2" difference is from the top of the lumbar support to the front of the seat.

My wife, a trim 5'6", test sat both seats and said she did not feel the comfort seat encroached on her space. We do not have nor do I want a driver backrest. Now, if you have a driver backrest and circumferentially challenged passenger all bets may be off.

I considered the CS the least expensive gamble when looking at other alternatives and have been very pleased with it. Once I get on it, only three and/or things make me hop off: low fuel, hunger, full bladder. Riding two up I stop whenever the bride wants a break. YMMV.

I ordered and will have a comfort seat and backrest installed this week. I will report my thoughts later on. I am 6'4" with long legs. I am also putting on Lamonster footpegs so I can streighten my legs on long rides. My Gold Wing Motor Trike is very comfortable and I am trying to get Mr. Cognac up to my standard. FYI I ordered the chocolate seat and backrest.

I have a Wing and a Spyder and I can tell you the Spyder seat is nice but because of the frame
of the trike it will never have the room that a GoldWing has, it get it, you have to take away a bunch
of the passengers area. I have done that for a few very tall riders 6'5" and up in size. He will have to do the above or get used to what he has.

ISCI is a terrific company that makes lots of cool Spyder stuff. They are the only ones with a floorboard kit that drops the feet. You can pick up a couple of inches that way, and not need a 36" windshield, because your head is now higher - -

Dave, I ride solo so seat design is not an issue. As you can see in the photo, my Wing is a Motor Trike and super comfortable....with lots of room with my foot pegs. I will see how the BRP comfort seat and foot pegs work out and if not, I will go with a custom seat...

I now have the BRP comfort seat, BRP back rest and Lamonster foot pegs. I rode several hundred miles with them this week. The seat gives me extra room, they say 2" and the backrest with the foot pegs are very comfortable. I am glad I did it. Money well spent.

Sounds nice. Can you post a couple of picture with the chocolate seat, backrest and the highway pegs? It would be great to see how it all looks together.

I will be glad to post photos. I really like the chocolate color and the seat is very comfortable. It should be for what BRP charges. Ha, it should be standard for what we pay for our Spyders. Have not posted pics in several years but will see how it goes. I gotta go out in the barn to get the pics, in the morning when I out to feed and water the animals.

Just to add. I am 6' 4" and I too felt cramped with the stock seat.
I bought the BRP Comfort Seat within a month of having the Spyder.

Later I added the Utopia Backrest. PLEASE NOTE: if you get the BRP comfort seat (not the 2014 model) and want to add the Utopia backrest make sure you order the correct one. They are different for the stock seat vs the comfort seat!

I still had issues riding more than about 4 hours with knees and a iron butt!

I then added a Air Hawk 2 seat pad and NVB pegs. I did a ride in October which was almost 9 hours and had no issues... These items totally changed the comfort of riding the Spyder for me!

FYI, my wife is not a large person and she has no issue being in the back seat with 2" taken away from her and having the backrest. However it DOES encroach on the passenger seat so make sure your partner will fit!

Bob
