switch panel inserts

USB rocker panel switch insert.

Does anyone know of a supplier that carries an insert that matches the dimensions of the Spyder RT drivers switch panel (where the parking brake switch is located)?
I wish to install a couple water proof USB outlets which I can wire myself but would prefer a housing that just snaps into the existing hole.

Thanks in advance.

Do not know of anyplace to get those switches, But .......

Are you aware that if you disconnect the Gas & Temp Gauges you will get the Gas & Temp Gauges Digitally on your screen (Much More Accurate), and then you have two 52MM openings that can accept USB or any other outlets that you desire, that can snap in and wiring is already there.

If you need more info on this let me know.

I was bored so I did some more research.
1.41 x .83 seems to be the standard size of a "can-am" rocker, for all their products.

Then I found this.

Manufacturer / Supplier - http://www.kussmaul.com/091-219.html (email sent)

I am researching the supplier and will see if I can find a waterproof version of this exact switch. This would be plug-n-play and ideal for USB connections on the rocker switch panel.
Thanks.

PS: Just found another that may work. Dimensions are correct for the rocker switch panel. (emailed Blue Sea Systems also)

I don't want to hi-jack this post, but I would like more info or link to a how-too. I would have sent a private message, but don't know how.

Update.

Received an email from Kussmaul sales this morning, then I received an email from the VP of sales and marketing at Kussamaul. He was very interested in what the use case was.
It seems they are a primary supplier for law enforcement and fire squads for interior vehicle installations. I provided him with some specific details and examples, so we will see what he says.
As a standard size rocker insert this could could be utilized on any recreational vehicle.

Just got an email from Blue Sea customer support. The product they have listed as new for Fall 2014 won't be available until Spring 2015. Bummer. Maybe I can get a sample ;-)

This sounds at least like a good start...
Good Luck!

Colin (VP @ Kussmaul) and I have been emailing back and forth about http://www.kussmaul.com/091-219.html , and things are looking very promising.

Here is his last response.

"Mark,
That’s a good step in the right direction. I’m currently looking for information on a “seal” that may be used between the switch housing and mounting surface. Also, I have a prototype for the cover but only one and I am confident it will only be splashproof (I’ll send you a picture). As much as I want to sell you this unit, I’d rather be certain we can keep it dry to prevent and failures due to water infiltration. I’m sure you understand. When we get this version complete, I’ll let you know and send you pictures. If you still want to go forward with the project, I’ll get you the cover for nothing of course.

I look forward to working with you on this project.
Have a great Thanksgiving.
All the best,
Colin"

It's been awhile since this thread was updated, but I have been emailing Colin monthly and he has been providing updates from his development team.
Today I received an email that they have a working prototype for the water proof USB rocker panel insert.

Today we printed a prototype that we are confident will work. That said, it’s not in production yet but when I get the first one, I’ll send it to you for trial. We still have to get the mold made for production pieces.
Stand by for more.
Thanks
Colin

Shortly there should be a new USB charger insert for the Spyder that will fit neatly into the rocker switch panel. Both ports will be 2.1 amps. I am quite excited about this. Stay tuned.

parisitic power draw

Just a point of intrest here::::::::
Many of these USB plugs have a parisitic draw on the battery:yikes: Just put it on a switched circuit.

Sorry for reviving an old post, but just curious if there's any update on this?

I used this one CARCHET Car 3.1A Dual USB Socket from ebay only $12. Then bought a connector to fit the gps power socket under the right side cover. Cut the round hole in the middle of the switch panel to fit. Ran the wire along the frame inside a plastic wire loom. This way the socket is powered by the gps circuit and turns off with the key. I believe it is on the same fuse as the rear and front outlets so if you move the fuse for constant power it will not shut off.

Do a search (top right corner) for "Carchet" and you will get a couple of threads. Here's a great one:

I will be doing this over the winter break. Great mod, relatively easy.

The plugs are available from BRP. Part number 710001999, Plug Carling. I could be wrong but I think the trade name for the switches is Carling.
