Sway Bar Install Went Real Well

Talk about bang for the buck! I just spent an hour to put a Baja Ron swaybar on my 2012 RT-S. Maybe I should say that my son-in-law and I did, but none the less, it went on more easily than I ever expected. But when it was all buttoned up, whew what a difference. The real test will be with my wife on the back, but it if the improvement is nearly the same as with one-up, it will be the best money I've spent on the Spyder.

Anyone with a set of tools and a lift should be able to swap out the sway bar with no trouble. The instructions that came along with the bar are great. It took us about an hour as a first time install, but we both agree that a second one would take about 30 minutes if we ever had to do it again. Good luck. ...Don

Totally agree...!!

Just finished my installation, road alone and with my wife and found the effect much more when double up..

Sway bar

With two new knees, surgeon says NO to getting on my knees on concrete or ground/ I will have to pay someone to do it for me.:doorag:

If you wouldn't mind flying me down from Connecticut, and letting me ride a little, I would be more than glad to install it for you !

Can't remember being on my knees but once, and that was to pop off the access panels. Lift it with a motorcycle jack before you pop off the panels, lie down on your back, get someone to hand you tools, and you can do it without abusing the knees.

If you are in for a ride, come on up to Macon and we'll do it for you. Besides, I want to see if I can prove out that "30 minute" theory.

Question about the installation:
How much clearance did it take to be able to get to everything under the belly of the bike? I've noted that the removal of a couple of bolts and jamming something in under there somewhere tips the frunk up enough??? :dontknow:
Could you elaborate on this???
thanks!

I used a small piece of a 2x4 placed between the frunk and frame above the sway bar. Holds the frunk out about 2 inches or so which was plenty of room to remove the bar.

Thanks!
So removing those 2 bottom bolts, and I'm assuming that loosening the ones up top; I'd be ready for take-off! :2thumbs:
(Courage getting tightened down a bit more each day...)

No need to loosen frunk top bolts at all. Ron's installation instructions are really thorough and spot on..all you need. BMWLARRY's photos were a big help to me as well, especially for specifics on tool sizes. YOU CAN DO THIS, BOB!!

WOW SUPER Sway Bar thanks RON

ITS so easy my wife could do it, less then a hour , took more time to get the spyder lifted up then to install it , and WOW any body with a RT should have one of these , we road about 400 miles saturday and sunday , ok its texas like 75 , sorry . its handles 10x better and safer , now it feels right.

The answer to that is directly related to the size of the installer's belly. :roflblack::roflblack:

We used a motorcycle jack and didn't even lift it all the way up. Lying under the front end during the disassembly and reassembly was pretty comfortable so long as we didn't have to get out to get more tools. We folded a towel and wedged it to get the needed room...also, another trick was to push up on the nose of the frunk with my knee when more space was needed.

I've got an ATV jack for the lifting duties; at least that's covered!
Now I just need to get the Missus off the property for a decent five or six hours...
(Everybody says an hour; I believe in prudence and proper planning!)

Hey Bob, let us now how it worked for you. I, too, would like to take on this procedure and I, too, have just a few mechanical skills. I just bought my 2012RT in October and have yet to even change the oil. I hope I don't find that as a daunting task as well, but it will get done. So, as for now, I await a big "WHOOO HOOO, I DID IT" from you, then I will consider the possibilities & Thanks Large

Ordered one yesterday and will be doing it the minute it gets above freezing in the garage. I also ordered the ATV jack and the stands from Harbor Freight, so hoping for an easy and quick install. Boxes just keep on piling up with all the goodies to be installed and my son is walking around the house saying "common it is not that cold out there, let's go put something on!"

I am ordering the sway bar and I'm very nervous about my ability to install it. You mentioned BMWLARRY's photos, but I searched all his posts and couldn't find the pictures. Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks much.

I asked for the same thing and Ron suggested that I wait for the delivery and instructions. He was right. They (the instructions) were flawless. Step by step and not confusing in the least.
