• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Sway bar/connecting link Question

frank3

RT-S PE#0180
Have had my Rt tore apart most of the season doing odds and ends. While apart, I noticed that both the left and right connecting link from the sway bar to the frame were cracked. I ordered a couple new ones and started to install them. When I had orginally noticed the defective ones, I had removed them and didn't pay attention to how they were attached. Anyway, looked at the service manual and it says NOT MUCH but saw a photo and it looked like they were orginally installed, attaching to the INSIDE of each side of the sway bar. Tried to do this but saw too much interference with the bar and the bottom of the front of the lower "A" arm. Ended up attaching them to the sway bar on the outsides of each side and saw no interfenence. Anyone else who might of replaced their sway bar or worked on it have any thoughts? Like to have some help before I reinstall the front trunk assembly.

Sway bar installation

I believe the sway bar curves "inside". I'd take a picture, but 5PYD3R is under an inch of ice right now. When it thaws...

I had a similar problem with the sway bar I installed on my RS SM5...One of the links were cracked when the sway bar arrived. It was replaced at no charge and yes..it installs to the inside. You can install the sway bar without removing the trunk but I installed the RT shocks at the same time so it was easier to do.

Scotty, it probably is covered under warranty but because I have the RT apart and wasn't able to take it in, I just ordered the 2 links myself. After I get it back together and the snow lets up, I'll take it in along with the damaged links for replacement or credit. Wasn't very expensive and I wanted to get them replaced prior to putting everything bak together. My dealer has been very good and I'm sure he'll make it right.
LittleBadWolf, when I attempt to install the links on the inside, it pulls the sway bar up tight against the bottom of the front, lower "A" arm. And the links are set at an akward looking angle. Can't understand how this could be good and in fact, I think this is what caused the links to crack. Just looks like a poor alignment issue. I think I'm going to bolt them up to the outside of the sway bar and monitor them for wear and or cracking.
Thanks all for the assistance.

I agree...sounds like an alignment issue with the links...Had no problem getting mine on once I received the replacement part.

I got into this one when I had my new Evolucione Swaybar installed.
Since I didnt want to get into removing the frunk at that time, I had my dealer in Ga install the new swaybar. When I got home, I found one of the links inside the bar, and the other outside ! I knew that couldnt be right so I disconnected them both and played around with the connections. The Evol bar may have some diff angles, length, etc at the end of the bar so a stock bar might be different...

After a lot of experimenting, both links are connected inside the swaybar, and that is the only angle that works on my RT.

This is the 3rd sway bar that's been identified as having a cracked hinge/link. Mine was replaced for nothing...but I'm thinking it must have been a Monday morning shift on the production line.
