• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

survey about lifespan of clutches

how long on average does the clutch last in the spyder with manual transmission sport version only, my clutch was replaced at 20,000 miles and the dealer said it was common, i do not race it or tow anything.

1 SM5 in my stable. No issues when I owned it. 23,000 miles before I traded it off two years ago. The GS is still running with no issues.

I had 56,000 miles on my GS SM5 before totaling it. Never had ANY clutch work done---- and I beat the living crap outta it... plenty of burn-outs, dumping the clutch, catching the rear tire between gears... shifting without using clutch at all, etc....... I mean I was really hard on the entire bike--- in particular the engine and clutch... and she was still running great at 56,000.

No way should your clutch go out in 20,000 miles.

SE5 has a dual clutch setup I believe--- not sure what the longevity of those is.. but I know there has been problems with people running RPM's too low and toasting them.

SM5 clutch

I have 43,000 miles on a 2008 GS/RS SM5 without any problems. The RSS and RS have the same engine, clutch and transmission so the sport should last longer than 20,000 miles. :doorag:

If you do most of your riding on the highway, A clutch will last forever, Now if you do most of your riding in midtown Manhattan you'll need clutches often, Just like brakes the less you have to use them the longer they'll last.

my 2008 manual has 73k on it and the clutch still works fine.

only problem so far was the thermostat housing cracked and leaked out all the coolant
and last week the front sprocket came off and as lost because the nut came off.
85 mile tow back home.
i didnt know the nut was supposed to be torqued to 80# evry 30k also put 1st new belt on.
also today i replaced the battery just for good luck.

hope to make it to 100k before the engine pukes.
