Summer Riding Jackets for the Ladies - $39.99!!

Found this out from my local riding group. Newenough.com is offering FirstGear Contour Mesh ladies jackets for $39.99. They retail for $149.99. These jackets are FANTASTIC for hot weather riding. It's like wearing an air conditioned jacket when the air vents through the outer mesh. It also comes with a wind liner for when it gets cooler. I have owned several FirstGear mesh jackets and I highly recommend them. :2thumbs:

I just ordered a white on white jacket to go with my new summer helmet, an AGV Blade 3/4 helmet in matte white.

Get' em while their CHEAP!

Nice Jacket! I already have a mesh - from the Harley days and it is black w/ orange "harley-davidson" on the back and I took a sharpie marker and blacked it all out! But if I were to get another one - those are very nice.

Newenough is great to get stuff from - most excellent customer service.

I've ordered stuff from them and they are hq'd in TX, right? So when I hit "standard shipping" they told me they will have it shipped from their PA warehouse so I'd get it the next day w/out having to pay for overnight shipping - can't beat that!

Also nice mens 1st Gear Mesh Tech Jackets for $59. Great Place and service. Got a HJC IS 33 3/4 helmer for $105-- Lowest competing price was $130 and it was delivered from a MA supplyer to me in CT NEXT DAY under ground delivery costs!!:2thumbs:

WOW, great... $59! I wish I had held out before buying my husband's FirstGear summer jacket. Oh well.

I ordered mine on Tuesday and it'll be here tomorrow. Standard shipping. :D

Thanks for the tip! I just bought myself and my bf new jackets for the summer for less than we'd normally pay for one! :2thumbs:

Glad to hear you are all taking advantage of the deal. My new 3/4 AGV Blade helmet came yesterday and my mesh jacket should arrive today..... now just waiting for the warm weather.

Thanks for posting the information about this sale! :2thumbs:

Are these jackets cooler than riding around in a short sleeve shirt? I have been trying to get my wife to try a mesh jacket but she says she doesn't want to wear one while ryding her Spyder. So, any convincing arguments that might help me out would be appreciated.

The answer is YES and NO.... the mesh jacket will definitely keep her cool, but maybe not as cool as just a t-shirt. On the other hand you risk dehydration and heat stroke by having exposed skin when riding bare skinned in the summer time (ask me how I know).

You should ALWAYS ride with at least long pants and a long sleeved cotton shirt in the summer time. It's better to sweat then not be able to sweat and pass out from heat stroke.

If you wear this jacket on a really hot day with a wetted-down cotton t-shirt it'll keep you really cool and keep the t-shirt from drying out so fast. It willl also protect the skin from the wind allowing your body to cool itself naturally.

Tips on summer riding: http://www.soundrider.com/archive/safety-skills/when_youre_hot.htm

And this was from an online article:

  1. Insulate your skin from the heat. It may seem counter-intuitive to wear protective clothing on a hot day, but you NEED to cover your exposed skin. Think of the desert nomads that spend their whole lives traveling in the desert with their camels: They ALL wear garments that cover their entire body and head. In real simple terms, exposed skin on a hot day is not only subject to sunburn, but bare skin soaks up MORE heat from the sun. If the outside temperature is higher than your normal body temperature (36.8°C or 98.2°F), and if your bare skin is exposed to the heat, your body temperature has no where to go but up. On the other hand, if your skin is covered, you are insulating yourself from the heat. It may “feel” good (particularly on shorter rides) to take your jacket off on hot days, but it is pushing your body into the range of dehydration symptoms even faster. (Of course, riding without proper motorcycle gear on a hot day could also result in considerably more severe circumstances should you take a tumble on searing asphalt with bare skin or without a helmet).
  2. If you are riding in areas of low humidity, for example, in the deserts of the American Southwest (or any place that is hot and “dry”), you can cool yourself by dowsing your cotton shirt with water and zipping up your jacket on top of it. Your closed jacket will keep your shirt wet, longer.

Thanks SpyderGirl! I will pass that information on to her and see what happens next.

Personally, I say for $40 she gets one and at least tries it. If I knew what size she needed I would just order it for her, and be willing to pay the consequences later. ;)

If she has another jacket just sneak a peek and see what size it is. FirstGear runs pretty true to size. I usually wear a small, but I ordered a medium because I wanted the extra room, but the small fits me too just fine. That's what my hubby does when he buys me clothes.

:roflblack: I was just off looking through her closet when I came back and saw this post.

I went ahead and placed the order for a red one for her. Hopefully she will like it, and wear it. I also picked up one of the blue ones at $59.99 for myself, as I don't think you can ever have too much ryding gear. :D

LOL! The red one is nice. I had the light blue / white one before and I really liked it. And the hubby had a dark blue one. Now I have a white / white one and he has a red / black one.

And no, you can't have too much riding gear, especially jackets when they are this cheap.

The jackets also have a zipper attachment in the back for pants too.

She will like the jacket. :2thumbs:

I have a mesh jacket and swear by it. It gives you adequate protection and very comfortable in the heat when riding. It does get a little hot in stop and go traffic but at least it protects you from the sun. When you are flying down the highway its great!
