Stupid Parking Break????

Hi all! I just put the Micron exhaust on and it is nice and loud!! I'm not sure if this is connected in any way or not, but when I was riding they Spyder the caution light came on and said the parking break was on, I pulled over and messed with the parking break and the light went off. I started riding again, and it happened again. It was a smelly ride, but I don't know if that was because of the parking break issue, the new exhaust or both and I'm not sure what was going on with the parking break. I stopped for a bit and then rode again, and didn't have the parking break issue at all. Any ideas what it might be or what I should do? I've only had the thing a week now, so I'm new to caring for it. :dontknow:

The Micron should have nothing to do with the parking brake, unless you did something to the cable putting it on there. Most likely you are accidentally hitting the park brake pedal with your foot. I have done this before. One click and the warning comes on, but there isn't enough parking brake force to be felt. If you found it was on a bit when the light came on, check your foot position. We have both accidentally put on a bit of brake when mounting the Spyder for a ride, or even when releasing the brake. Uncoordinated, I guess. :dontknow:

Unless you have an SE5 - no real need to use the parking brake. Mine works fine after the update, but I rarely use it anyway.

My SM Spyder also had the parking brake message appear after the first several rides just after purchasing the Spyder...There is a switch that needed to be properly adjusted..,The switch is activated off when the parking brake is released..It was very simple to do..Sorry I don't have any pictures..Maybe someone else can help?? larryd

Well it seems fine now

I have the SE5, so I have found I have to use the parking break because if I don't it rolls away and I have to run after it! I rode yesterday for about 50 miles and there were no problems. Maybe I did accidently hit the parking break while I was riding. I don't like where they put it, it is in a really awkward place.

I use the parking brake but am starting to use the steering lock as well.

The other day was at the local gas station, filling up...turned my back on the bike and it started slowly rolling away...had to catch it!

Reason it rolled? Parking brake engaged but not enough...really gotta hammer that thing down...

When I park on any incline/decline, I turn the wheel and lock it...only way to be sure that the bike isn't going to go anywhere...at least not anywhere far!

I'm glad I'm not the only one running after their Spyder! I've thought I had it set several times and didn't as well...fun as long as you catch it!:roflblack:

On the SE5 you must have a parking brake or it will roll off. I had the problem and took it back to the dealer. There are three adjustments that can be made - probably only one needs to be adjusted. Two or maybe three clicks is all it should take to engage the brake. Take it to the dealer and have it adjusted.

When I set the brake, I attempt to push the bike forward and backward even on level ground (no such thing as level anyhow) before I walk away from it.

When I took delivery of my spYder, the dealer told me to be sure to only use 2 clicks with PB pedal, more would stretch the cable and eventually cause problems. When properly adjusted, it takes only 2 clicks and the bike remains secure. After over a year of rYding, I have had to use 3 clicks, but a slight adjustment took it right back to only needing 2 clicks.
MASHING the pedal will certainly cause parking brake problems.
I have had to lubricate the locking mechanism 3 times to allow easy release of the PB.

How do lock steering wheel? I can't seem to lock it like I thought.

Turn the handle bars to either side extreme, then turn the key to the lock position. You may have to wiggle the bars a bit to find the latch hole. Same goes unlocking it, a little wiiggle is often needed.
