• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Stuck in 5th gear

RE-PROGRAMMED

A friend of mine did it on His GS and didn't ...... Spyder ran fine ..............If you need to re-place the GPS , you don't have a choice ..... so the worst case is it will have to be re-programmed :dontknow:............. Mike

If i replace gear position sensor does the bike have to be reprogrammed

Hey Randy. Here's the thing. The manual calls for the Reset procedure to be performed if it is replaced. That doesn't mean that you might get away without doing it, but it ensures that the sensor learns the correct positions.

But, if you are leaning towards that being your cause of getting stuck in 5th gear, the sensor is not the usual culprit. Meaning that, if your gear indication was accurate, and tracked while you manually shifted to neutral, and the indicator is not flashing different numbers or indicating "E", you might want to address other items first. Or to put it differently, is there a specific reason why you're focusing in on the sensor? Is it giving you bogus indications?

BTW - when you checked the fuses did you remove them and test them. A visual is not always accurate. Fuse F2 - 20a - under the seat would be a good suspect. So would the hydraulic control module oil filter since you said the oil level is good.

5 th gear

Posting the same problem ....Multiple times .... but changing or not including ALL the info from Thread to thread usually causes ......PROBLEMS

While doing the 'multiple posting/slightly different story/shot-gunning the Forum' thing that Mike identified above IS exceedingly 'Troll-like' & often the first sign that a Forum has got a troll on board, it can also be a rookie mistake from a first time user who doesn't understand all that!!

But having had it brought to said rookie's attention, then deleting all but one of the threads should be their very first order of business, or at least seeking to get all the threads merged into the one thread, so that not only will THEY get all the responses in one place & a clear line of discussion on how to resolve their issue, but it'll also be a lot easier for others chasing the same info & for anyone searching for that info or that thread to track it down.... ;)

Putting all the info & discussion in one place will not only make it more likely that a final resolution will eventually be found, but it also means everyone doesn't hafta track all the threads to see who said what & exactly what the state of play is now! All up, one thread is a MUCH NICER way of doing business!

THIS THREAD

Actually Peter the word Troll never entered my mind ... I gave what I thought was a good response on the OP's..... OTHER Thread .....Trying to get better info. On this forum I try to read ALL the other responses and not repeat answers that have already been stated 5, 6, 7 times etc..... I just got frustrated that it took me a moment to realize that this Thread had been started before ....... end of rant ... Mike
