STS exhaust fit RT?

Does anyone know if a muffler for the STS fit on an RT since they have the same converter before the muffler? I was looking to put a muffler on my RT since I saw some for the STS cheaper than just replacing the bypass pipe. I don't want anything loud, just something to give me a little more torque while riding 2up but with a quieter tone at highway speeds.

You might want to be a little careful & check that the brackets that hold the muffler will keep it clear of the RT's park brake assy on the rear axle!! I 'tested' a sports muffler off an STS on my 2013 RT, & it all looked good until I rode it, when we found the inside of the muffler hit the park brake assy as the swing arm moved, gouging a mark on the inside of the muffler. I suspect it would eventually damage something down there rather than just scrape it up! So check very carefully that the muffler will clear everything as the swing arm moves up'n down!!

Just Sayin'

But the connection at the converter is the same, right? I looked on HMF website and a 2014 STS looks identical where the muffler connects to the converter. I can figure a mount to keep it away from the frame and parking brake. I really like the way the HMF mufflers sound and they're very economical. As long as an STS system will bolt up to an early RT.

Well, it did bolt on, but I do have a Cat Eliminator fitted.... :dontknow:

The major issue that I could see tho, was how far out from that join the tubing went before it turned back along the swing arm & into the muffler component & was then held by the bracket - it seems to me that the STS pipe firstly didn't project as far out as the RT's did/needed to, & then the bracket was shorter & closer to the front of the muffler, which meant the muffler itself ended up being held about 2"/50mm closer to the swing arm than was necessary on the RT to clear everything :gaah:

Oh, & the shorter overall muffler length on the one I tried also meant that the bottom rear lip on the RT pannier got very hot & dirty pdq (it took just a couple of minutes/miles) so I added some shielding tape to the bottom/end of the pannier - so if you are going for a shorter overall muffler, then I'd think that without similar or some shielding, the bottom/end of the Pannier would eventually melt! :opps:

I guess it depends a lot on exactly which pipe you want to run, but be aware there are a couple of traps for the unwary! Just Sayin...

I called HMF yesterday and they basically told me the same thing. The STS kit will bolt up but the muffler is a tad bit shorter plusthe angle of the connecting pipe isn't exactly right causing the muffler to hit the parking brake assembly when the swing arm articulates up and down. They did say that a kit for the RT would be in process this summer. HMF works on street applications during the summer. Waiting to see what they come up with.
