• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. HELP I need info...
I have had my new to me 2008 Spyder RS/SE5 for about 30 hours I have put about 85 miles on it with no trouble ....but about 8:00PM while on my way home from town at 55 MPH I looked
down to see what time it was and a message was scrooling across the screen saying
CHECK TRANSMSSION !!!! I dropped my speed down to about 25 for about 1/4 mile and
the message went away, I was about 1/2 mile from home so I went home at about 30 MPH
pulled into the garage all seems OK but.... what about the message ?????
did I buy a LEMON ?
Thanks everyone
Dave

I have the exact same year/model as you do. Mine did the same thing the other day and it freaked me out too but it went away and I haven't seen it since if ya take it in and they hook it up to buds it will tell em what happened or that it did happened

I would also check your oil level, just to be sure ( motor and trans share same oil ). Make sure you follow the procedure in the manual on how to check oil !! I recently experienced this, and was a result of oil being low. My fault..:banghead:

Teddy & I would like to say Congrats on the New to You Spyder & Welcome to the Hood

:congrats:&:welcome:

:agree:Checking the oil is a good start. Also, like a computer has CONTROL ALT DELETE similar goes with the Spyder when you run into trouble, but our procedure is CHECK FUSES, RELAYS & BATTERY CONNECTIONS to make sure that they are all seated and nice and tight. A loose one of any of these can cause the computers system to start throwing speradic, seemingly unrelated codes, so always good to check, as things DO vibrate loose from time to time. Also, make sure your foot is NOT touching the brake pedal AT ALL while riding, unless of course, your intention is to slow down or stop. This is a known culprit of throwing codes And the Dreaded Limp Home Mode. Also, here's a good link for you to check out:
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...t-Do-s-and-Do-Nots-quot-for-new-Spyder-owners

And if it happens again, check to see if it throws any codes by using this procedure:
1. Turn ignition key on
2. Press mode repeatedly to show engine hours on display
3. Start engine and run until warning is displayed
4. Press and hold mode button while pushing the "flash high beams" rapidly five times. If not completed within 2 seconds, you will have to repeat the complete procedure.

Fault code(s) will be displayed or "No Active Fault Codes" will be shown.

Again, I'd start with checking the oil first. And one note, the Spyders oil needs to be checked while the machine is HOT, like after a nice ryde going thru all the gears. Just because your Temp. Gauge may read in the middle, doesn't mean your ENGINE (& oil) are at operating temp. that just displays the COOLANT TEMPerature and has nothing to do about the Engine or Oil being at proper operating temperature to check your oil. Alot of ppl get this confused.

Good luck and let us know what happens next.

As was said, check your oil level. Also make sure you are not inadvertantly (or purposely) holding down the shift paddle. It likes momentary contact. If the oil level is OK, you thumb isn't trying too hard, and the warning continues to occur, change the oil and filters, preferably installing the new extended trans filter and cover. If that doesn't cure it, you probably need a new Gear Position Sensor.

TRANS NOTICE

HI EVERYONE
OK here is the skinny on the warning scrolling :yikes: last night on my new to me RS auto.
oil is up code went away, I DO NOT ride the brakes I learned that about 50 years ago
all seems normal BUT.... I am on my way to the dealer for a look see and go crazy in the
accs. dept. I will keep you all informed...
big question will my MAC code reader I use on cars and trucks work on this thing. I do not have
the proper plug in for it but the MAC man comes today.....

There is a difference between riding the brakes on a regular bike and "riding the brakes" on a spyder, you would be ASTONISHED at how little pressure is needed to make the bike trip the sensor even if you are not braking. Same with the paddle if you have an SE model, I have gotten this message before due to inadvertant hitting of the paddle to shift from 5th to 6th gear (oops!), or if you hold it to long or anything like that.

The machine is sensitive and can be a little dramatic at times ;)

No code reader that is designed for cars / OBDII will work on the Spyder. You have to have BUDS or there is an aftermarket guy selling something quite expensive to read the codes.

I'm piddling with building my own code reader but no progress yet.

This one isn't from riding the brakes, that gives a different warning. It could result from "riding" the shift paddle, though...or holding it down too long during shifting.

check tranny

i have an 08 se5 as the name implies and i also encountered the check transmission code. it was code p0826 ( check up/down switches ). i had gotten caught in a downpour and i think that is what threw the code. it went away and have put over 300 miles on it with no more notice. maybe it was just the moisture ? i also started shifting at between 4000 and 5000 rpm. dont shift at lower rpm's. i hope this helped.

Had that problem when I had my 09 RS SE5 and it turned out to be a bad gear shift switch. Just another possibility. Fix took 3 days including waiting for the switch to come in.
