• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Stranded on the road

You think??
Change out the battery, It's due any way and when you do get a new one fully [slow] charge it your self.
The salesman will tell you its fully charged but just for kicks make sure and do it your self.

As Bob says, charge (1.5 amps or so) the battery 24 hours before using. Few batteries are charged over 80% when shipped from the manufacture....salesmen just don't know...I was in the auto parts business for several years and we charged our batteries up upon receipt...they always needed it.... I also plug BR1 in to a battery maintainer when not riding him. JMHO

Just curious, I read there is no alternator on the spyder so what charges it? This is all you Scotty! Ordered my battery last night. Should be here Thursday.

They've got a magneto...

No... Not this one! :roflblack:
I believe that there were some design parameters that made the magneto a better choice; probably Scotty or Sparks could tell you what they were.

Room , lack of it. Alternators are large and belt driven.
Years ago Audi came out with a combination starter alternator,
Don't know if any bike manufacturers tried using it:dontknow:

The charger on the Spyder is a magneto, a variation which moves a magnet past the wire coil, instead of moving a series of coils past the magnet(s). A magneto charging system can tolerate more heat than an alternator, important in closed quarters like those of the Spyder. It is also more compact.

Got my battery in Friday for the spyder. Went with the mottobatt. Charged for 24 hours like advised and reinstalled yesterday afternoon. Went ahead and picked up a tender and hooked in the pigtail while I had the Tupperware off. I am happy to say that the spyder has made a full recovery! Thanks for all the help and advice to get me back up and running. I felt pretty confident it was the battery, but I'm thankful for all the advice on the proper checks to make before I ordered the battery. Now I've got a birthday and Christmas coming up soon. Hopefully I will have some highway pegs and an ultimate seat to install soon.
