There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Storage Trailer questions

I am currently in the exploratory phase in deciding if I am going to get back into the Sypder world. I previously had a 2011 RT LTD which I sold a few years ago. I am looking at getting a 2014-2016 Spyder RTS or LTD. My dilemma is I no longer have room in the garage to store one. I have two options I am considering (with the bosses approval of coarse as she is not happy with either option currently).

One is 12' x 10' shed that I can add at the edge of the driveway. The boss is not crazy about having a "shed" in that location though she has not ruled it out, yet! (I can get a well built one delivered that matches our house for about $3,000-3,500).

Option 2 is to purchase a single axle travel trailer, 7' x 10' to store it in. An obvious advantage is it can also be used if I ever need to take it somewhere. (around $3,500-4,500) I don't want to spend a lot of money, therefore a larger trailer is not really in the cards nor is a double axel even though that would provided a lot of advantages.

I have a few questions to those in the know: is there a big difference cost or convenience wise to get a "low" axle type trailer I see advertised vs. standard height axle trailer. The low axle seems to be easier for getting in and out but not sure if there is an additional cost that would be prohibitive.

Also, is an extension to the door (the part at the end of the door that folds open to decrease the angle of driving into the trailer) needed for the Spyder?

Thanks in advance for any input and advice.

:congrats: on at least considering your option to come back... :2thumbs:
If you plan on storing it in a trailer; pick yourself up some stabilizers for each corner.
With the door acting as a ramp; you probably wouldn't need to do much to beat the angle of the climb into the trailer. Most folks have found that maybe a couple of three foot lengths of 2x6 is enough to do it.

It would seem to me that a shed would be more useful if you ride it several days a week and intend to park it inside at night. The convenience factor Shed vs Trailer, shed wins every time. and i have not seen many sheds stolen lately :roflblack::roflblack:

TRAILER VS. SHED

....If you ever plan to trailer the Spyder than this is a NO brainer ....cost wise.....A small shed at the price you stated is IMHO a waste of your money.......You can get something canvass for a lot less as long as snow load is not an issue.....Back to the trailer, There are some light weight aluminum out there that have single axels and a TORSION bar suspension........Plus when you load or un-load , if the front is raised a bit there isn't as much of HUMP that might scrape the bottom of the trailer.....BUT WHATEVER YOU DECIDE ....IF THE MRS. ISN'T ON-BOARD.......DON'T CHOOSE THAT OPTION.......:lecturef_smilie::lecturef_smilie::lecturef_smilie:....Mike

Trailer or shed

I faced the same issues in 2012 with my first Spyder... The trailer was the best option, and it has been used to store the bikes, move the kids, and so on. I have the ProLine all aluminum with a single axle, standard height. The fold down door works well and no need for the door extender with loading or unloading. Proline a can be found at NHtrailers.com. Check them out...they'll custom build too!:banghead:

Try the ramp if you get a trailer, buddy had dealer get his for service and they tore up his spoiler. We have a 28 foot cargo trailer
To store my wifes and mine in the winter. But summer comes. Car sits out and bikes get garadge.

I vote for the trailer. Many uses open up when you have one. Mine is a 7x12, single axle, v-nosed, enclosed aluminum. With brakes! Store my Spyder in it. Had them install an electrical outlet so the trailer is plugged in. That way I just plug in the battery tender. The ramp has an additional fold out "transitional" flap. No problems getting in or out. Tom :spyder:

Storage Trailer follow-up regarding balance

Still in the process of deciding between shed and trailer, but if I go with the a trailer, what is the best way to determine where the Spyder should be tied/strapped down for proper balance of the load?

Should the Spyder be centered over the axle, positioned "X" feet forward or to the rear of the center axle, or some other technical method to assure while driving down the road the trailer follows smoothly?

Thanks in advance.

It's tough to figure out what to tell you about this... nojoke
You usually want to carry about 10% of the trailers total weight on the hitch.
If you put the Spyder in it loosely; you can move it around a bit, and see how it affects that weight...

Wrong type of Trailer

That is nice but I am referring to a trailer that is used to haul the SPYDER not a trailer to pull behind the Spyder.

Like all comments above & agree with most but, one thing not mentioned, if you have a trailer, family & friends will expect you to use it for them.
( not just borrow it from you, but it's your trailer so you know how to drive (have truck set up) with it/use it, & get volentered for all sorts of stuff:yikes:) just my experience fyi. & goes for any size ,type trailer it seems.
So for the long term tell boss "pick shed or garage" :2thumbs: & fill with Farkles:yes:
