• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. OK. Then maybe he means reaction time. With your foot flat on the floorboard, from the time your brain recognizes you need to brake and you actually do hit the brake is like 4/10 of a second. I'm sure that reaction time is way less with your hand 'covering' a brake lever or near enough to one.

Classic, my original comment was simply meant to be a humourous one, regarding where else you can possibly keep your feet except next to the brake;) I agree completely that covering a brake lever with your hand will give you quicker braking than moving your foot to the pedal.

When I took the Motorcycle Safety Foundation basic rider course, one of the things they stressed was the importance of covering the brake lever when you were in situations that warranted extra caution. It reduces your reaction time by maybe fractions of a second but that can translate to the difference between a close call and a wreck.

I cover the brake pedal with my foot in those situations, trying to be ready just as I would if I was covering the brake lever with my hand. I don't use foot pegs for the fact that I don't have a hand brake on my Spyder. Oh, and it's a 2013, so there's the whole dragon's mouth issue to contend with but that's another story.

Even on the open highway, my foot is in a reasonably close position to apply the brakes quickly. There are far too many critters of all shapes and sizes waiting for their chance to surprise you as you're riding. Cornfields offer a great place for deer to launch a sudden attack and they are very devious and have no feelings of remorse as they resort to such tactics! So, as they say, the best defense is a good offense!

He probably means feet might be up on highway pegs away from the floorboards

When my "time on seat" approaches an hour, my feet and legs move around to various different positions to help prevent cramps.
(Those who are under 50 years old probably won't fully understand that.)

But yes, regardless of that my foot should be near the brake when in any traffic.
(And those under 50 probably won't appreciate how MANY things you can just "forget" later in life.)
;)

Classic indeed.

YOUR comment certainly did NOT come across as a joke.
FAR from it.

You seem to know how to use the emojies; one at the end of that comment might have helped........although I don't see how what you said was funny in any way.

...............The number of miles I've driven dozens of bikes ,and I can't remember riding with my hand " covering " the hand brake ...

Here's a hot news flash for you, Mike:
Not everybody rides like you do.

And not everybody is so good at making caustic remarks either......thankfully.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize you needed an explanation of "covering". It's when you approach an intersection and you aren't convinced the drivers waiting for traffic will really see you and wait for you to pass, that they might pull out. You place your hand nearer the brake lever in case preparing for what you hope doesn't happen. This cuts down the reaction time that I mentioned in my post that you felt the need to criticize.

.. I'm also sorry , but your statement WASN'T clear about the circumstances in which the covering was being used...If what you are NOW saying is what you meant than I agree with you 110%. I probably did the same 10's of thousands of times........ Mike

Easy Rider.......did you actually READ my post? You are correct, there is not "an" emoji at the end of my post.....THERE ARE THREE smiley faces. If you are going to take offence and comment as you have above, maybe you should look at your own comprehension levels first.

Back on topic

For those of you who think Spyders stop well, do you have newer models or ones with the Brembo calipers? Asking because my 08 with stock brakes and pads, is just "MEH" at stopping. I often have to downshift to first and use engine braking in addition to the brake pedal to panic stop as fast as my two wheelers. (My Street Triple R can stop with two fingers and lift the rear tire if I grab a big handful of brake).

It's always felt that way, even when I step on the pedal hard enough to activate ABS; and the pads aren't glazed etc. Seriously thinking about braided stainless brake lines to eliminate that mushy pedal feel. .. that and flushing the fluid reservoir.

When I had my 2010 RT; I found that a quick pump on the pedal, always make it stop better.
But the Brembo-equipped 2014 only needed one stab, and it was done moving forward!!

Thank you for removing any doubt from my mind that you're maybe not a douche.

Feel free to ignore anything I ever post here. Believe me, I won't miss your witty repartee.
