Still thinking of getting a Spyder GS/RS... Any hear issues?

I am still thinking of getting a Spyder gs/rs, 2008 to 2010. Are there any heat or reliability issues I need to be aware of? Thanks for your input.

We have a 2009 GS and fight a ton of heat issues. We've done the typical things which have helped but not taken it away. It's still a load a fun - just have to be aware that the right foot gets hot (more so the hotter it is outside).

Try and find a 2010; they had most of the earliest issues worked-out by then...

My wife's been riding a 2008 in Texas since 2009 with no bike related heat issues, though she has overheated once or twice.

If after doing the mods to get rid of the heat, have you tried changing out your 'Y' gaskets?

Easy to do, replace them with Honda PN 18392-MAM-000. Changed mine out 40k ago and no heat issues since.

I have a '09, had all the updates done and she's a blast to ride! Get a '10 or older.

Hi watebo,

Re: Spyder gs/rs, 2008 to 2010. Are there any heat or reliability issues I need to be aware of?

I've had my '08 GS for two summers now. Have had only one overheat/limp home mode; that was early this past summer and nothing since.

In late summer this year, I added the SpyderPops Heat Management System to my Spyder; it definitely took care of the 'warm' right foot.

If you can get the VIN for any Spyder you are considering, have a dealer or BRP run the number for updates. Then check it out & go from there.

IMO the heat is not a 'do not buy' issue for the '08 - '10 years.

I am very glad that I bought mine, the most fun on anything less than 4-wheels ever.

But, that is just my opinion,

Not to worry....

The only heat issue will be the grey matter between your ears form thinking too long...:roflblack::roflblack: go for it...the RS /RSS models have not had major heat problems.

I have a 2008 GS which I purchased July of 2014 with about 2,400 miles. I wear boots, and while there is some heat, it is not unbearable.
This forum is great for information.

2008 with spyderpops updates and y gasket. Warm but otherwise no real heat issues.

Spyderpop heat management upgrades installed - shield, foam on the radiator thing, extra plastic in the scoop, and the Honda Gaskets. I ride in boots - and not terrible - but do feel the heat. It's the wife's ride though - and she usually rides in sneakers so feels a great deal of heat. It's definitely much better than before I did all the above, but still gets pretty warm.

I wear boots too. Old habit carried over from when Hubby broke his ankle in a biff.

Don't have any highway pegs on the GS, so don't have my feet around the radiator fan. Could that be the issue?

I own one, and the only heat issues I have encountered, are on a scorching hot day with ZERO TRAFFIC movement, otherwise have no issues, ride to work during the week with 8 " high leather work boots. GO FOR IT.
