• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Still amazes me - some of the **** that gets posted!

I do not browse any other sites so cannot do a comparison.

Everything on the Internet is true. There is a special government agency, it is called, "Governmental Reliance Internet Postings Efficiencies". They troll the Internet, correcting all fallacious information. The employees of GRIPE, are truly smart people. Their job title is "Better Information Teansmission Examples Management Experts", or BITEME for short.

Mainly in general. Just an example...

Lets say say your rear brakes need replacing, there seems to be 10 different ways on 3 different forums....why not just look at a service manual. :gaah:

Some of what gets posted just seems dangerous at times. Lol

The Development Of A Thread

Let's say that we've got a new member in here, who has just bought their first Spyder... used. ;)
They've got about a million questions, and don't know where to start, so they ask the first thing that comes to mind:
"How do I change the headlight bulb in my Spyder?"
3 people will post that this information is clearly printed in the manual
4 more folks will then tell the O.P. to get a shop manual.
6 will then post where they got theirs
1 will offer to email the O.P. a copy of it.
then...
5 owners will start a debate about LED versus incandescent bulbs...
2 will complain about the price that BRP charges for them
this will bring out someone who knows just which bulb will "almost fit", and can be had for about six cents at his local hardware store...
Now we'll have 1 person step up, and say that these bulbs burning out is a horrendous safety issue, and BRP should recall ALL Spyders, and replace the bulbs for free.
This will prompt the question about if those bulbs are burning out, due to heat issues...
4 people will now jump on the poster; telling him (Or her) to grow up, and get a life...
We'll have 18 posts about heat issues caused by burned-out bulbs: 3 with the problem, 2 with the 2014 bike, and no problem, 6 others who think that the first 3 have been sniffing too much exhaust fumes...

Then the whole fracas de-evolves into someone asking who wants ice cream... :opps:
3 ice cream lovers will mention their favorite flavor, and one of them will even tell all of us where we can get it!
We may even end up with at least two songs, and a movie clip getting posted...
EVENTUALLY:
folks will actually start discussing the steps involved...
3 will suggest to have the dealer do it... to keep the warranty intact!
2 more will de-bunk this as nonsense.
4 will become entangled in a debate about alternate methods that require less time and bloodshed...
7 more will want to know about changing OTHER bulbs on the bike...
:yikes:
Finally: ONE person might post the correct procedure...

You forgot two things. 1 person will complain that the Owners Event is too far from their home; two people will call the original poster an :cus:, and say to search for the answer . . . nojoke

 I forgot about the "Search" button... :banghead:
(Most people do...:roflblack:)

We all know that 2 folks will complain about; pronouncing it useless. :D

Hey, I've got the solution.

Forget about the whole mess and go ride.

Yea, I know, we're waiting for spring.

Maybe that's it, we can all agree to bitch about the weather!

Over time advice gets exaggerated from a grain of truth. A good example is the famous "Key Walk". The truth is is if you turn the key off until the gage cluster powers down, about 20 seconds, some types of fault error codes will change from active to occurred. If the original reason for the fault are gone the problem will seem to be fixed. That has evolved into taking out the key and walking away 30 ft and waiting 10 minutes. That will fix any problem. Ignore the giant puddle of oil under your machine!!! In another year it may get exaggerated even more to 50 ft away, wait 20 minutes and you have to do the Chicken Dance while waiting.

If the Chicken Dance is performed to solve a problem; :lecturef_smilie: failure to post it online will invalidate your warranty!

Hi Bob,

Re: Let's say that we've got a new member in here, who has just bought their first Spyder... Finally: ONE person might post the correct procedure...

Could someone make this a sticky?

Bob, there is more truth there than we realize. Nicely done,

Jerry Baumchen

good to know. One question though, do I have to play the chicken dance music on my iPhone at the same time. Please post back. I NEEED to know this.

Thanks (in advance)
Dan

You'd look kinda silly doing the chicken dance in public without the music!! :roflblack: [Of course, with the music, it's much more dignified!]
