Sticking Throttle

Hello everybody, Got a question for you.
I have a new 2015 RTS. Have not put it on the road yet.(waiting for class for m3 endorsement-March).
After reading the manual and watching the video - And practicing the pre-trip inspection/checks : I have found that the throttle (twist grip) does not return to the "home" position when released.
I can push it back with my finger and it will spin back.
When I contacted the dealership- the response I got was "There is no recall on it. I didn't ask about a recall.
Any suggestions for how/what I should do.
Thanks Don

While it is running and in neutral and has warmed up and the tach shows 900, if you twist the throttle and release it ............. What happens ? does it return to 900 rpms or what??

Before starting the bike

This happens before I start up. (The video says to test this before attempting to start).
Once I start up and turn the grip heater on-(warms up) the throttle twist works like it should.

Guess i didn't look at the video.

I've never did that without running.

If it works fine when running i wouldn't worry

sticking throttle

.....I also have an Rt ( 14 ) and mine has never done this. Doesn't matter whether it's running or not, or has been warmed up or not, or had the grip heaters on or not............... imho, something is sticking/binding and the dealer should address this.................good luck...........Mike

When mine is not running and i try this, my throttle "SNAPS BACK" if yours does not, I would have the dealer check it.

Pre Trip inspections

This is part of the pre-trip inspection that is suggested in the video and in the owner manual page 114.
Once I start up it works fine. But every time I try it before starting up it sticks. Doesn't matter how much I twist the throttle. (1/4_1/2 or full twist).
I tried the dealership- Where I bought it-And was only told -There was no recall-.....? I didn't want to know if there was a recall-I wanted to know if they had any suggestions.
If it sticks pre trip/it could stick during a run. Right/Wrong?

:yikes:..:lecturef_smilie:....You actually have two issues....#1. a throttle that sticks ( not normal ) #2. a dealer that STINKS ( imho )....Issue #1. will be easier to deal with than issue #2.--- unfortunately.......................The good news is ...it doesn't stick when it's running, but this may change at a very in-opportune time and KILL you........When you get a chance bring it to the dealer and demonstrate this, test a few floor models to see if any others do this ( I bet they don't )......good luck .........Mike

:agree: But sounds like you have bike at home & need dealer to instruct you over phone on what to do. Also you can try easing the cap off end of throttle.
If on too tight it may cause problems. ( found out installing my lid loxs) but the dealer saying no recall and not asking anything else is a red flag, call around and find a better shop. Not necessarily in driving range just a better shop.

I would recommend calling Triangle Cycles North in Danville Va. They put a rear tire on for me and checked and adjusted my parking brake topped off my brake fluid at no extra charge and their labor was less than anyplace within 100 miles of me in NC.

Also, can I ask where you purchased your Spyder so I can avoid going there?

It's the throttle spring not in the hole you to take the throttle off and reposition it to you get the spring into the correct hole there's only one hole it goes into

Before driving yourself NUTZ by shopping for dealers, and pulling all sorts of things apart; try just loosening the end cap a little bit...
If the throttle starts returning to it's closed position normally; you've now got an idea of where the issue might be...
Good Luck!

Agree...

:agree: loosen the command screws on the back, and the end cap. Push the command and throttle tube towards the ignition and tighten the screws. Then make sure the end cap does not touch the throttle grip. It may be slight hut once started the vibrations could be helping the return. ..:dontknow:

Thanks!

Thanks for your time and suggestions.
I tried loosening up the end cap slightly and that seems to have taken care of the problem.
Thanks guys.

:congrats: Now you can take a closer look at the rubber that is probably touching that cap, and just trim it a tiny bit...
