• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

steering, what else?

Welcome to the club... we should all get T-shirts . Good luck to you on getting your spyder taken care of.

Silly, but I got confident and started to think I don't mind the heavy steering.

I drove mine for 11 months with no power steering as that was the way BRP delivered it to me! :gaah:

The Great PDI Procedure from BRP never had a check for power steering back in Dec. of 2007. So it was uncrate it, collect the cash, and and ship it out the door. Then let the customers diagnose the problems.

Back then they were all worried about the brake recall they had going on.

I remember having to get ugly with both BRP and even my dealer to a point back in Nov of 08. Nobody believed me when I told them mine never had power steering even from day one.

Little did I know then that was only the tip of the DPS iceberg yet to come.

I hope "one of parts they are going to throw at it" fixes it for you? As I now firmly believe they do not have a clue on what it really takes to fix this problem the first time, everytime, for anyone. :dontknow:

If people at Mc Donalds did their job this poorly people would freak out, and that's for a 5 buck Happy Meal! :yikes:

I'm sure soon somebody is going to takes this to a "whole new level" and when that happens BRP will have nobody to blame but themselves.

Okay, I'm kind of worried right now. My Spyder went in for the 12K service Monday, and will get the recall thingy, and probably the 2 updates. Hoping for the best, expecting the POO.nojoke At least there will be time to get it sorted out before the current ice age is over.

As they say....

Be afraid, be very afraid. :joke:

Jeuchler - For what its worth, ever since my Spyder tech put a scratch on my Spyder during its first service, I now stand right there and watch all work being done and they don't say a word. I'm out of the way, but within five feet. I've even picked up their service books and looked at the service bulletins. We now have nice conversations and I learn new things, like the Spyder battery doesn't charge at idle, the brakes are bled electronically by BUDS, etc.

The Great PDI Procedure from BRP

Ah..I had my copy of the Pre Delivery Instructions leather-bound!

...never had a check for power steering back in Dec. of 2007. So it was uncrate it, collect the cash, and and ship it out the door.

Hey, don't forget they had to "snip the zip ties on the shock mount and relocate the temp sensor!"

...Then let the customers diagnose the problems.

Back then they were all worried about the brake recall they had going on.

Oh, man, remember the thousands of threads (OK--Ten.) on squeeky brakes?!

...I remember having to get ugly with both BRP and even my dealer to a point back in Nov of 08. Nobody believed me when I told them mine never had power steering even from day one.

Yet another good t-shirt design idea: an iceberg with "DPS" at the tip.

...yet to come.

My daughter didn't get icing in her $3 take-out order of cinnamon sticks from the pizza place last week. She was furious.

Thanks, Ev.

Many chapters to this story, I am afraid.

Thanks, Gary--you're right.

Funny, because in our nearby little small town hospital, I just walk in with folks into the ER, etc, and never let nurses tell me "I'm sorry, you'll have to stay in the waiting room." And that's with HIPPA laws.

I guess I was feeling trusting, as I had always been pleased with the dealership before.

I think I learned my lesson. :(

Are you actually sure they did anything wrong? Even when the procedures are followed to the letter, there have been failures. If the DPS is bad, the update seems to expose it, and it no longer communicates, or something. New DPS units, sometimes multiples, eventually seem to cure the problem. Not sure the source of your frustration should lie with the dealer...at least not him alone. Luck of the draw, it seems.

What seams to be happening is = They hold your Spyder hostage then you start salivating to ride call Carlo [PAVLOV] Swedish hostage syndrome kicks in = get Spyder back after weeks you fall in love with Carlo/BRP/Dealer,
Then every thing is right in Spyder land!!

Geez, no, Scotty--that's what I mean.

I'm searching for an analogy here, but..if I set up a website with one bad character of code and the site works, then I go back and fix the code but the server burns up, it appears to be a causal relationship but, man--good luck trying to prove that, let alone with whom the fault lies!

Or...my woodstove gasket cement dried up, and most of the gasket came off from the door, so I cleaned it and replaced the gasket, using new cement.

Now if I have a chimney fire, did the gasket expose an existing problem? Where does the fault lie? With me? With the folks in the house who love to burn pine and xmas wrapping paper? With the last person who swept the chimney? With the mason who built it?

OK, I'll stop the bad analogy rant.

If the DPS is bad,

I can define "bad" html code in terms of missing endtags, non-nesting, etc. I can define a "bad" chimney: inadequate seal, cracks in masonry, etc.

Not really you being the one who has to tell me, Scotty, but who knows what's the definition of "bad" here?

...the update seems to expose it

...and how does the update "expose" it?

...and it no longer communicates, or something.

:roflblack:

(No, really, Scotty. I'm laughing.)

New DPS units, sometimes multiples,

OK, I realize I am nearing the "how tender would you like your dead horse beaten" level here, but...why multiples?

eventually seem to cure

:lecturef_smilie:Careful with that verb.

...the problem. Not sure the source of your frustration should lie with the dealer...

Yes, absolutely right...that's why it's frustration!

at least not him alone.

Luck of the draw, it seems.

:(

That's alot of "seems to", "sometimes" and "eventually..."

Take a look at your High School Yearbook, then look in the mirror.

Things change.

I agree with Gary, it takes vigilance to make sure you are getting the service you need and are paying for.

Um...OK, but I look the same.

(I'm the one between Carol Bast and Kathy Zehr.)

So, now that the elephant is not only in your livingroom, but is sitting on your couch and eating your lunch..... :yikes:

Maybe you can show him to Carlos so he can tell the rest of BRP that the elephant really does indeed exsist! That this recall/update is actually inducing as many problems as it is suposed to be fixing.

I have heard of more people getting DPS problems AFTER the recall/update than ever had problems before the recall was started.

This recall/update should be a "foolproof seemless procedure" and not require special "mojo" or "vodoo" to get it right.

Nor should it require to be done by a "brain surgeon" as he "hops on one foot and clucks like a chicken" to get it loaded corectly ether.

They need to come up with a "foolproof procedure' that can be done by the "average mechanic" at the "average Spyder dealership" that will allow this to be done successfully everytime, no guess work or luck involved.

What is the most upsetting here is that this recall/update that was suposed to prevent steering problems in Spyders, looks to me like it has ended up inducing far more DPS problems than I belive the Spyders had to begin with. :dontknow:

I wonder what the next turn in all of this will be.....?

Now I don't feel so bad, 'cause it's not just me. I couldn't convince my dealer that my power steering is working intermittently. I was told "stiff turning is a characteristic of the Spyder" and "it rides like all our other Spyders."
