• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Steering problem update...

We finally made it home and we actually managed to salvage a few days of vacation. However, I must say running the Dragon's tail in the truck was not exactly what I had in mind. :yikes: We did manage to have a good time and trailered the spyder back to the dealer today and dropped her off.

BRP has been very concerned about the situation and have talked to me often. Carlo and the Tech at BRP have been in contact with my dealer (RideNow Powersports of Ocala) and are working on figuring out what is happening and a solution to the problem. They assure me that my spyder will be fixed but they may have to keep it a week or so. They told me they probably will fly someone down to the dealer to go over it and see if they can figure it all out and come up with a solution. My spyder did not throw any codes and is not scrolling any messages.

Anyway I believe they are honestly working hard towards a solution to the problem. I just hope they can find one. I truly love my spyder and would love to have it back in a trustworthy condition although it will take some time for me to feel that way again.

To Lamont I would like to say "thank you" you have been a big help as usual. Don't ever give up on this site, as most of the good, the bad, and the ugly information we have learned we have learned here. True some of it is not so nice, but so much more of it is very helpful. I know it has helped me out a lot and some of us would not have made it this far without it. I, for one, will promise to post more often on the positive things in the future and not come here just to vent problems. However, when there is the potential for others to get hurt or worse I think we should share that information. I will be posting updates as things progress and I hope you all do too, perhaps we can get this thing resolved. In the meantime ya'll ride safe...:2thumbs:

Perhaps another of Lamont's polls for those who have had steering problems with questions like when it started, what updates you had, how many miles, etc. can help brp to figure things out?

Good to see that BRP is taking such an interest in it. Hopefully this will help calm some of the fears running rampant. Glad to hear you made it home safely.

Adventures often come with hardships, but I'm so glad no one was hurt. I hope Carlo and BRP do right by you, please keep us informed.

Pitmon, you are a class act.

Thanks and like everybody else has (and will) say, I hope you are on the road soon.

Tom

Great to hear all's well, pitmom!
I stopped by my shop Thursday and talked with my mechanic about the steering problem I posted about last Saturday.

He said he went into the software of the DPS, and he displayed the torque offset setting. That is where we saw the graphic that I previously described as like looking at a clock. True center is set at 0. Each tick left and right of 0 goes -1, -2, -3, etc. My Spyder was only at -1. but that was enough to pull my steering.

Hope this helps.

So I wonder how it gets this way or was it always at -1 ya think? But if it was always at -1, you'd be having problems from the very beginning, right?

Talked to the dealer today... he said at first he rode my spyder and could not get it to act up, then he took it out on the road and it was bad. He said that if it had happened to him at highway speeds he probably would have wrecked it. Anyway I am glad that they could experience first-hand what was happening to me. He said BRP had authorized them to change out several parts. He said they hooked it all up to the computer and it still is not showing any codes or anything. We shall see how it goes.

I also remembered to tell him about my handlebars not sitting perfectly straight. Evan noticed it when he installed my risers at Daytona. Evidently when the dealer installed my 1" riser when I first bought the spyder they didn't align it correctly and when the wheels are perfectly straight my handlebars sit slightly off center. Wondered if that might make a difference (don't know since I have ridden it that way since day one). It's not enough that I noticed it but Evan did when he measured everything for the risers. I had forgotten about it until now. Anyhow any information i can give them will help diagnose the problem I suppose. Sure is a beautiful day, guess I will go out and play for a while.

Glad to hear it acted up for the dealer. Most of these type of problems come back from the tech's with a " can not duplicate" on the service form. Not anything they do wrong, but the problems come and go so much its hard to plan when one will occur. The Ride Now group are good people to deal with from my limited experience with them in clearwater Fl.

Thanks for another cool, calm, and informative update. I'm sure this is helpful to us all. I think it is really good that the dealer got to experience the problem first hand. It lends a credibility that no amount of rider reports or complaints could ever provide.

As to the riser, it has been previously reported that a few of the risers were improperly machined, and ended up off center. Yours may be one of those, and need to be replaced. My opinion is that such a situation might be enough to throw off the SAS and contribute to your problem, even if it didn't cause it, but it's peculiar it never happened before. The riser thing may just be a separate issue. It sounds like BRP and the dealer are doing a thorough job, and will make you good as new as quickly as they can. Thanks again for your understanding and calm reporting.

Unless, when doing the update, the set the wheels to 0* based on handle bar position.
