• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

starter issue

After I drive my spyder for awhile and stop it I sometimes have a issue when I want to start it again. It wont let the starter turn it over. So far, if I turn it off and let it recycle it will then start. I replaced the battery thinking that was the problem, but it still does it once in awhile.

What kind of Spyder do you have? Model? Year?
What do mean the starter will not turn it over? When you push the starter button, nothing at all happens? Or the starter tries to turn over the motor but can't?

If you are new to Spyders the most common cause of being unable to start is because it was left in gear and you must press down the brake pedal for the starter to operate.

I have a 2011 RTS. It does try to start. Its like it is vapor locked. I do know about having it in gear. That happened to me when I drove it home from buying it.

Make sure you keep it on a battery maintainer when you aren't using it, Spyders are very touchy about battery power. Also check to make sure battery connections are clean and tight.

Not sure..!!

this could be your problem but we have seen starter motor magnets coming loose in the housing. Once glued back in place all worked fine. If it dosen't clear up even with a new battery it must be somewhere else. Starter button could also be an issue...

So the starter is spinning it over but the engine won't start. Happens when it's warm. I will have to think about this for bit. Others may have some ideas.

2010 and 11 RT had a hot start problem. It was fixed with an ECM software update that holds the throttle bodies closed for 40 minutes, after the key is turned off. I think this update came out sometime in 2011.

When was the last time your Spyder was plugged into BUDS and all the updates done?

I bought the spyder used last year, so don't know the last time it might have been updated, if ever. This sounds like it could be my problem.
Thanks for the info, will talk to my dealer tomorrow.

:agree: x 2. The 2010 and 2011 had "hot start" issues. A BUDS update fixed it.
