Started a day early to avoid the "Blizzard"

Well maybe not a blizzard but a lot of snow for this time of year!! Anyhow Spyderman 990 and us left about 5:30 this morning from our house in Homer, NY and met Ken Tompkins in New Stanton, Pa. and we now are just west of Columbus, Ohio. It was a rather nasty, cloudy, foggy, windy cold ride down but at least no rain to speak of and no snow. There are warning people back in New Stanton now to stay indoors and off the roads because of high winds and accumulating snow tonight and probably tomorrow. I'm glad we decided to leave early and hopefully we are far enough west that we won't see the really bad weather tomorrow. We expect to be to Cuba by mid afternoon tomorrow......so looking forward to meeting everyone this week.

I am in Cincinnati now. Maybe well meet up enroute. I am going through Louisville because it's more scenic. You are probably going through Indianapolis. It's a little shorter. My GPS says I have 459 miles to go..maybe 8hours?

In Sikeston, Mo

We left Biloxi, Ms this morning and tonight we are in Sikeston, MO. according to Street Atlas we only have 210 miles left. When we got here ar 7:30 tonight the temp was 58, so it is a little cool here. We will be Cuba Monday morning, then have to go to Springfield, MO to Dad in the Hospital, but should be back in Cuba later tomorrow night. It is only 130 miles to Springfield.

Glad to hear you made it out of the 'weather' in Stanton and had a relatively safe ryde, despite the conditions you had to go through. Our thoughts are toward both of you as you continue your westward trek.

We'll see you in Cuba.

8 hours straight through...average 55 m.p.h plus. You got to factor in a few or more stops for gas and 30 min. for eats. Probably more like 10 hours.

Safe travels. We'll see you also in Cuba this week.

Good to hear you're in Missouri. Yes, the weather is rather cool especially in light of all the warm weather we've had in the last month or so. The sun should be out tomorrow and that's gonna help a lot.

Hope your dad is okay. Travel safe. See you in Cuba.

Glad to hear you got out before the storm. Looking forward to seeing you in Cuba. We had beautiful weather today and we are in Albuquerque.

Travels

Well, I rolled into Cuba about 2pm. I didn't get rained or snowed on. It was cold, though. Glad I had my electric liner.Went to MoHicks for BBQ. Tasted as good as ever. Bumped for a few ryders at Cowtown. This fest is going to be great:yes:

Us to

We were planning on leaving at 2am on Monday, but after checking weather.com at noon on Sunday we were on the road at 12:45 to miss the snow in PA. Luckily we were trailering both bikes because we were in pouring rain for 8 hours and driving snow at 32 degrees for 4 hours. We arrived in Cuba today at noon and have already been to Cowtown and meet many new friends. This week is going to be fantastic!! It has already been worth the 24 hour drive and is only going to get better.

We made it tonight with a few......

problems with my trailer loosing a hub seal and blowing grease out of the inside of the hub all over the wheel and underside of the trailer. A guy overheard my problem and knew I was looking for a place to buy a grease gun so that I could add more grease to the bearing buddy and offered me to use his grease gun in his truck. So I took him up on his offer! I think my the bearing buddy caused the problem by blowing the inner seal out. I have always just packed the bearing with grease the old fashioned way "by hand" and never had a problem and have towed the trailer several thousand miles, but thought it would be easier to just add grease through the bearing buddy. I followed the directions and stopped when the spring was less than fully compressed, but........

The next problem was Spyderman990 had a problem.....he forgot to pack some riding pants and borrowed some from Ken T. and......well they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so go to the following link for the "rest of the story". :shemademe_smilie::dontknow: Hit the slide show button when you get to the album.

Can't wait to start seeing everyone and enjoying the week with old and new friends!!!!

Bearing Buddys can be useful, especially to add a little grease to purge any water out of a boat trailer hub, but as you have seen, they can overfill a hub quite readily. Even with the Bearing Buddy, wheel bearings should be repacked by hand annually and the center of the hub should be left open for expansion, and for tired grease to accumulate if the Bearing Buddy is used.

Over the mountain in the snow

We left Henderson, NC Sunday and spent the night in Wytheville, VA. Got up yesterday morning and saw a few snow flakes...within 10 miles on I81/I77 the snow really started to fall. It snowed on us for two hours until we made it to Charleston, WVA. Then had about 20 mph headwind all the way to Louisville, KY...knocked our fuel milage in the F150 Ecobust down to 10 MPG for the days ride over the mountain and in the wind on the rolling hills. Leaving Louisville this morning and hope to arrive in Cuba by 4:30. Beautiful morning here in Louisville.
