• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Standard Seat/Backrest Problem

I bought a standard 2014 seat and installed on my 2011 RT so I could install the standard backrest for it. After buying the Can Am backrest and installing it on the standard seat, I am not too happy with it. The backrest pushes me more forward than the seat without it and it's not adjustable.

I'm considering buying a comfort seat, but don't know if the backrest will fit it. Is there a difference in the Can Am backrests for the standard seat and the comfort seat? Will my backrest fit the comfort seat?

before you do anything else make sure you have the proper back rest installed. My first (factory) Back Rest pushed me forward and i hated it, i took it back to the dealer and we discovered that i had the wrong one and they replaced it and now i love it.

As Ann and Joe both said, there are different back rests for the OEM and comfort versions of the seat.

It is possible you got the wrong one--I would check that first. It is bad that the BRP backrest does not offer some adjustment. It is sounding like people like them or not.

Another option is the Utopia backrest. It will install on the OEM seat nicely. There is adjustment for the pad up and down as well as a set screw that allows for some forward/backward placement. The Utopia is NOT rock solid and has a little give. Not good if you want a FIRM backrest. Install easy, price about $250, and matches the OEM seat.

I'm really starting to think I screwed up. I could have kept my stock 2011 seat and installed the Utopia for a ton of money less. I just thought the Can Am backrest looked very comfy.

Thanks and Request for More Ideas

Spoke with Cruzr Joe and it turns out I have the correct backrest for the seat. Joe suggested putting a couple washers as spacers under the two rear mounting screws for the backrest base. Before I try that, I was hoping others may have some ideas.

No one screws up here. Sometimes we make the wrong choice. :roflblack:

Options: If it is not a "parts" error--sell the back rest and get some of your money back. Go for the Utopia and move on.

Seats and backrests are one farkle that is a crap shoot. You can spend a lot of money and never get it perfect. You don't really know how good it is going to be until you get a hundred or so miles in the saddle. Then, it is usually too late.

Wishing you the best on getting everything right for you.
