• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

SS5 selector malfunctioning

just got my Spyder home from a extended vacation in the dealers storage bay for a messed up motor

the mechanic told me he had been having some codes thrown when attempting to down shift i mentioned i had the switch replaced 8 months ago due to it not functioning properly

after the replacement for the first couple weeks after an oil change (ever since the new filters were started) the selector was difficult to manually shift down and to go to neutral then it would clear up and work properly untill time for an oil change then it starts again first couple weeks acts up and works fine after

has anyuone see an issue like this

2009 se5 41700 miles

Yes, mine just started after I changed the oil as well but I do not see any relation between the two. It is starting to get better but it can be difficult to get it back to neutral from 1st.

hmmmmmmm..... could this be a case of Uninteded Consequences???

Interesting:shocked: If I recall correctly, I believe I read somewhere one of the reasons for the newer filters besides elongating the duration between service intervals, was to aid the SE5's with a smoother shift transition. Seems like this is exactly the opposite, but as stated, could be no correlation between the 2, but does seem odd, no :dontknow:

Have experienced similar intermittent shifting to neutral difficulties lately. Couple thousand plus since last oil change tho, so in my case don't see any link there. It's as simple as a paddle push to shift to neutral doesn't register, but if reverse is selected it goes into reverse, then from there it will shift to neutral. It's only happened a couple of times so for now it's just something I'm keeping an eye on and making mental notes of. Oil's at proper level and screens are clean. :dontknow:

nobody had this issue?

I been having the same problem. My stated before I got the new oil filters. But it was low on oil add some oil it went away but came back about a week later just got my oil change with the bigger filter and it still doing it.

shifting issues

checked the oil its at the proper hot level

the only thing i can tell as for the correlation is the SE5 is a hydraulic actuated transmission the switch sends an impulse to a actuator to make it sown shift and since the spyder runs the same oil through out motor and trans maybe this filter does have something to do with it

shifting

was talking to a BRP mechanic i trust and he said my symptoms sound like the " HCM shuttle" is sticking

when i first purchased this used 09 within the first 50 miles it had a check trans warning and went to limp mode they wound up cannibalizing another RS to get me on the road it was in the HCM they were working not sure exactly what part it was they pointed to the HCM and said some part but i have slept since then

It happened to me yesterday and a day before. I took time to shift to reverse. I kinda ignored it and thought it was just normal, but his never happen before. I hope BRP will have some answer to this situation.

shifting issues

after chatting with Bruce who worked on my bike in the past before the dealership lost its BRP license

he has heard of this issue before said the oil as it breaks down allows the HCM valve to operate easier

he said i more than likely have a shuttle piston on the one that down shifts sticking so when i try to manually shift down it does not allow full travel and as the oil breaks down it allows easier moment

so a filter difference don't seem to be the issue its the oil and the valve shuttle

sigh back to the dealer

i hope they get this done faster than the 2 months the last time they had it i have only had it back 2 days
