Squealing Brakes

My brakes now squeal at low speed when I get close to a stop. Does anyone have this issue? How do you get rid of it. Its annoying.

Try going up to 40+ mph then hard slow down but don't completely stop a few times.

More than likely some sort of debris on the pad or rotor. Inspect and clean with some soap and water.

Do not powerwash,you could wash off hardware lubricant or push water past seals.There is no easy fix but if you can take the pads off then look at pads and look for any sort of debris lodged in the pad material.Sometimes pads just squeal and all you can do is change brands or just replace.My RT rear pads squeal when they get real hot like when going down a long series of mountain switchbacks

If you take the pads off to do a closer inspection apply some brake grease to the rear of the pads where they contact the caliper pistons. It is often vibrations that raise the noise and this grease will help dampen those vibes. You can get small packets of this stuff at any auto parts store and many stores will include a few packets when you buy new pads. I often relate the pads vibrating to the cricket. Listen to the noise they can make simply by rubbing their legs together. Usually under the refrigerator at 2 am. It doesn't take much vibration to make a brake screech LOUDLY.

+1 for pad lube, especially considering it's at light load slowing to a stop.

Humidity can cause oxidation(fine layer of rust) on the disks and cause a squeal when you apply the brakes. I have an old ford that does that and I usually just increase speed and then hit the brake to scrape the oxidation off real fast. Then the car is fine for the rest of my travels. Just a thought.

:agree: with that, and I've noticed that the brakes on my RT only ever squeal on the gentle, tentative applications! No squeal ever on the firm applications, but (for example) if I'm coasting to a stop & gently feather the brakes as I roll in, you'd think I'd run over a bloody great mob of baby rabbits!! :shocked:

So I now try to use firm or positive brake applications all the time, & especially for the first few applications on starting a ryde after leaving the Spyder standing for a few days - no more squealing! hyea:

NAPA and Prestone both make a good anti squeal. Don't leave home without it.
