• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

squeal noise when cold under load

all spyder owners, please inspect your front drive belt sprocket tightness. the retaining bolt on mine backed off enough to damage the sprocket ( thank goodness the sprocket is softer than the transmission main shaft. no damage to shaft) symtoms: squealing from belt when cold, red dust on sprocket ( rust ), loose washer on bolt ( grab washer and turn ), abnormal sprocket wobble when rocked. when removing bolt, work rust loose by loosening/tightening using penetrant to prevent thread damage.
anybody else seen this?

Thanks for posting...

I've not heard of this issue before... it maybe a fluke. A shift change or someone broke for lunch and this one did not get the proper torque.

Since this did happen I will check our units today.

Did you find loctite on the threads after removing the bolt? Will you use blue medium strength thread locker on the bolt when you install it again? /Thanks, Ken

There have been a couple of other reports of this, as well as a broken front sprocket bolt. This is one of those items that should be inspected when you do the periodic inspection of fasteners for tightness (on any motorcycle). If nothing else, look for rust in the center of the sprocket or the loose washer, although by then replacement is likely necessary. Be sure and use a torque wrench to tighten the bolt, too. If one broke, yours could, too.

thanks for the links. my sprocket looks like the one on the pics. on first link. the retaining bolt had no locktite but was hard to remove due to rust. no damage to output shaft splines or bolt. deep wear on washer. agree the torque on this bolt should be checked regularly. it's on my schedule now...
